Nicky's Top 10 Australian Bands

Just saw Nicky Wire has his top 10 Australian bands as a list on the official site...

1. AC/DC
2. THE BIRTHDAY PARTY
3. THE SAINTS
4. THE TRIFFIDS
5. HOODOO GURUS
6. THE AVALANCHES
7. THE VINES
8. MIDNIGHT OIL
9. MEN AT WORK
10. THE GO-BETWEENS

Being an Australian myself i couldn't help but be slightly upset that Augie March didn't get a gong...

One Crowded Hour

Pennywhistle

or You Am I for that matter?

Mr Milk

I'm not trying to gratuitously plug these bands, it's just very rare that a discussion of Australian music ever comes up.

I'd have Jet in there, I love Jet. AC / DC are probably the kings though, for sure.

First thing I thought when i saw this new list: "AC/DC are Australian?!?!"
Feel free to beat me over the head for not knowing enough about older rock...

yeah the scots could claim them as well...but the influence of Bon Scott (who is "quintessentially" Australia) during their peak probable lobs them into the AUS basket...but the ambiguity is kind of like how Crowded House and Russell Crowe are in that Aus/NZ grey area

The Avalanches! Woo!

He's clearly not included Empire Of The Sun/The Sleepy Jackson because Luke Steele has stolen all his makeup tips. Doesn't excuse the lack of Pnau, Presets or, biggest sin, Cut Copy.

And Geordieland too I guess.
Aren't the Hoodoo Gurus kiwis?
Edit: just checked and they're not, should Google before I type.

Can't really give an informed answer to this, seeing as Nick Cave and Crowded House are the only Aussie-ish acts I know more than a few songs by...

Great list! I'd add The Church to this Top, and my favourite Australian band:

The Easybeats - Friday On My Mind

This song is absolutely fantastic.

I was hoping The Datsuns might have been Aussies so they could make the list... :
