I remember Q magazine at the time saying that if There By The Grace Of God and Door To The River are anything to go by, their next album could well be their best. Shame it didn't work out entirely as they and I had hoped, but still. Good era, that. I wonder where the band would've gone next if Lifeblood hadn't tanked, leading to the "Fannies, shall we just go back to doing the old style, then?"-Manics that we have today. Could've been some amazing things.

I adore this song, it's so magical, ethereal. It could easily fit on Lifeblood, and as many songs on Lifeblood, it took me ages to realise how beautiful it was.
Also, it sounds great on a plane.

Definitely. The verses are really restrained so when the chorus takes off, it really takes off.

I don't think it would fit on 'Lifeblood' at all actually. 'Lifeblood' is a deliberately cold, synthy album. 'Door To The River' is too expansive, too warm sounding. And the massive strings would make it stick out like a sore thumb.

I do think the Manics over-use string sections but it works here. Not sure about 'Baby I lost my way/Following our star/But I guess that's just how you are' - couldn't think of a line to finish it off Nicky?

This is pretty much how I choose what to buy and not buy, plane quality. That said though N-Dubz are engineered to sound good on phones so maybe that was the plan.

I reckon it could fit on Lifeblood if you put it next to Emily or Emty Souls

I was just listening to this last night and wanted to add my two cents here. What an incredible song! James voice on the verses....doesn't sound like him (but in a good way).

Flint - you're opinions on all Manics-songs make for an interesting read, really! not all that pleased with the non-praise of 'So Dead', though! it *is*, after all, Manics best songs. ever. yeah.
