What did you think when you first heard THB?

When my friend played it - 'This is nice' 'Did they just sing 'Shalom Shalom?'...

When I got it - 'Damn, that thing needs to be remixed and I hate that stupid Welsh accent, I can't hear a thing' (UK version)

I bought it on the way to my uncle's. When I got there I thought his stereo was broken. Seriously.
(Goes without saying that I have since come to love it!)

Who's he? Who's she? Who are they?

And, "this is.. different". There isn't another album like it.

Good questions, you're a smart one! I think I questioned the entire She Is Suffering lyric - 'Riiight...'

I listened to it a couple of times and thought all the songs sounded the same. Put it down for a few months and came back to it. This time it was amazing.

i didn't get it at all. i let a friend borrow it with the words, "the only good ones are the first three and faster". suffice to say, my opinion has changed over time.

Blown away.

SATT was the album that got me into the manics, then i think my next album was EMG. Over time I read about THB's reputation and thought it'd be a let-down so I went for the other richey albums first. Eventually I realised i wanted all their albums so I just went and got it. I was expecting the most unlistenable record ever as I'd been reading the lyrics on the way home (most of which I obv didnt understand but they seemed dark)...then the riff from Yes kicked in and I was just blown away.

It did take me a few listens to really get into it though - She is Suffering and Intense Humming of Evil I didnt really like on first few listens, I now think the latter is one of the strongest on the album

You bought it when you were a month old? How precocious!

"What is this rubbish? I can't tell a word he's saying. Who is it anyway? Can we listen to Gold Against the Soul by those nice Manic Street Preachers instead?" kinda sums it up. For several years I had GATS on repeat in my car and hubbie had GT and THB on repeat in his. It took a while for the penny to drop that he was listening to the same band ...

I think I felt physically a little ill after hearing TIHOE but I knew there was something special about it so I did listen to it a lot. It was only when I went and read about how important it was that it fully clicked though.
