Know Your Enemy - 180g Vinyl LP Reissue

For all you completists, there has been a reissue of Know Your Enemy on vinyl. I'm pretty sure this is strictly a Sony thing and the Manics probably didn't have any say in the matter. Sony has been licensing albums for reissue to a company called Music on Vinyl (they've done other Sony reissues including Rage Against the Machine, Alice in Chains, Silverchair, etc). Why they chose KYE is beyond me. I like the album but surely they could have chose a better album to reissue.

The record is pressed on 180g vinyl. Like the original pressing, it's a single LP. For a 65 minute album, they really should have pressed it as a double LP. All in all, it seemed like a wasted opportunity. But here are links for those who are interested. I got lucky and pre-ordered mine when it was priced at $32.

Also, I do believe you, but where does it say it's a 180g single vinyl?

Ignore me, I've found a link http://www.musiconvinyl.com/releases...now_Your_Enemy

Not criticising the band but what an exploitation of fans! It's hardly a classic so it's only collectors like yourselves who'll buy it at a ludicrous price.

It's the going rate for Music On Vinyl repressings which are limited in number and well presented (usually coming in a stiff PVC sleeve). Given the choice between buying a good quality repress or the gamble of a simular priced 2nd hand copy on eBay, I know where I'd put my money. Here's hoping for a Holy Bible reissue !!!!

Yeah, the original pressing was poor, so a 2LP re-release would have been worthwhile, but it's difficult to believe this will sound any better with the sixteen tracks still rammed together on two sides.

when DVD first came out in the late 90s there was a lot of shit put out by the studios to "test the water" for the market - hence you could get RoboCop 3 on DVD for years before 1 & 2 became available.

Sony seem to be adopting this approach - let's put out a lesser accepted album on vinyl re-issue and see if it sells before going all out with "bigger" titles.

for some inexplicable reason the record labels refuse to accept that vinyl buyers never actually went away - i seem to recall the tale of a bunch of record pressing factory employees who bought the plant when a label decided to ditch vinyl all together, and they have made a very healthy living pressing singles, 12"s and albums ever since.

CD is nice and convenient, this "mp3" business is lovely for all you young things, but music was always meant to be heard on vinyl.

Unless it's been remixed so that it sounds like it wasn't filtered through custard, all the shit tracks have been removed and all the good b-sides have been put on....then I'm not interested.

Unusual mix that sounds better on headphones. Making So Y So :-( more or less mono unusual too. I sometimes think the whole thing was going to be mono and then they changed their minds and phased it out into stereo.

if they had named the track on the album and single exactly like that, right, they would have sold shitloads more copies, and happily retired off the royalties from compulsory rites of passage purchases by Emo kids.

there would have been a few extra sales off confused Prince fans, too

Yeah, noticed loads of these type issues cropping up all over but I'm surprised it's KYE getting this treatment over THB, EMG or TIMTTMY. I'll get it at some point...
