rewind the film - band reactions
I was thinking this morning how the band would look back at the album in a few years time. To me something like lifeblood was a beautiful album certainly something to be proud of and not something to dismiss and although gold against the soul gets dismissed something inside tells me James must proud of his guitar playing.
Will the band look at rewind the film in a similar way once the amps are turned backup to 11? I would be interested to read what people think?

I think they'll see it as the folk album they always wanted to make. Nicky will talk about it like he talks about what is in my opinion their weakest post-Richey album, PFAYM, as an album that served its purpose and was a success conceptually. RTF has a couple of stand out tracks (for me TSWH, RTF, IMTTS, AHATS, TYW) but really they are average songs in an average Manics album that slots nicely into the 2nd or 3rd tier.

Well said. Given what they said last night I expect they'll refer to it as their "Nebraska" and time will convince them that it's a really stripped-back, bare affair... which is reality it's not.

They will form 'official' opinion based on sales. I guess they will say it is OK.
I still can't believe what James said about Lifeblood. It is just delusional. Almost every fan put this album (LB) in top 5-6 albums, but James ignores this? This (RTF) album is not stripped back, but they did not overdo it. Look like every note and every instrument has it's place. There is no 'walls of sound'. I think it is crafty. And man, song RTF is so powerfull. Please, somebody remind me, is it the longest Manics track? I wish it is 10 minutes long... |

Yes, RTF (the song) is pretty awesome! (As is the album itself!)

I hope they remain proud of it, they should-it's a thing of absolute beauty.

I always think it's a shame when a band isn't fond of something but I can see why, I made some terrible songs ha ha ha

They'll slag it off in some form, like they do for most of their best albums.
TIMMTY - Too slow KYE - Too messy LB - Lost the plot JFPL - Ok they haven't slagged it off yet, but i guess they can't really can they. I just ignore whatever they say nowadays, they've never been the best judges of their own work. I mean they keep rating Postcards and how many people liked that? About three... |

Patrick Bateman feels like their longest song, because it just plods along for ages until finally getting to the climax. RTF is just beauty all the way through, it seems like it doesn't last long enough.

I reckon Anthem for a Lost Cause and 30 Year War will stick around future setlists, but they won't bother with acoustic guitars (I say this having just watched the elongated, relatively rock ending of Tolerate on the 6 Music red button gig)

I hope they realise the real value of this album, its done really well with chart positions and stayed in longer than other recent albums so I think it stands a good chance of being a favourite of the band.
