Can't really do much about the drums now. Mastering would make very little difference to electronic drums at this stage.

I've not had chance to listen to it properly myself, but most mastering today charges head first into the "loudness war," maxing everything 100% where possible. I might have a side by side comparison later.

I'd say if anything what has been done here is the rhythm guitars sound lovely, thick spacious now wheras they were a bit flat back in the day. That has opened up the drum sound which means they are more prominent, but it's a solid job and makes it comparable for the first time to the rest of the catalogue, which should if anything make for a more satisfying listen on compilation albums. At some points it does sound a bit brickwalled though.

I think the best song is Condemned to Rock n Roll, it finally sounds like the towering fucking beast it is.

On another note, who has picked up on the easter egg in Stay Beautiful? Different drum fill before the solo like!!

And the unwelcome volume increase at the end carried over from National Treasures.

Thing is the old mix was so muffled, I imagine no bugger noticed. The transients in that are so minimal.

I've been something of a lapsed Manics fan these last few years but I finally got around to buying this and I think it's a fantastic box set. It was nice rediscovering the album after so long and listening to the demo's and B-sides again.

13 months later - finally got the box set - was a bit disappointed with the lack of info on when the demos & rarities were recorded. The question is: does anyone on here know when these tracks were recorded?

Maybe this info is not available - been trying to second guess but I've a feeling I'm way out on some of the dates. Thanks in advance if you can help

Ok, I know this is several months/years down the line, and there is a strong possibility that this question has been asked and answered, so I apologise in advance.

Does anyone know what order the demo's were recorded? Or even what dates, roughly?

My guess is 'South Wales', 'Marcus' and then 'House In The Woods'?

Also, would the South Wales Demo of Suicide Alley be recorded after they did the single, with the view to putting it on an album?
