THB 20th vs. EMG 20th Gigs

As I was loading the dishwasher tonight I was wondering what the lucky people on the forum who were able to go to both THB and EMG 20th anniversary shindigs thought about the two gigs side-by-side?

Did one experience stand out over the other?

What were your favourite/least favourite bits?

Was there a notable difference in the atmosphere?

Did any parts of the gigs surprise you?

Did the band seem different on stage?

Which one did you prefer?

the holy bible was very intense, still think they should have walked off after the last song and not bothered with a greatest hit set...still one of the best gigs i have been to...the best i have seen in the barrowlands.
EMG,is a lot more enjoyable and not as serious, hearing enola/alone and no surface all feeling is worth it,just for those songs..seen it in Amsterdam when it wont be as big and epic as it will be on Saturday in the hydro in glasgow...i really hope they change the second set round, and play more diverse songs.
i hope thats the end of them touring full albums now.

OK !

I both saw them as different things and it bought home now they couldn't have done THB part 2.

What were your favourite/least favourite bits?
Seeing them play with keyboards as a three piece for THB/Better version of Motorcycle Emptiness on EMG.E MG flows better than THB.t hey didn't do the full ending to Interiors which was my favourite bit. Also I only started to sing along from side two of THB.

Was there a notable difference in the atmosphere?
Glitter shredded cannon would of looked odd and probably cause a fire hazard for THB.
I was in stalls, I should of got a seated ticket for THB. The people around me were older but THb bought younger crowd by comparison.

Did any parts of the gigs surprise you?
At both I thought "They'll never fill this place!" to seeing just that at both gigs.

Did the band seem different on stage?
Yes. At the THB gig, James nervously picked the guitar used for a later song ( I think Mausoleum) about three songs into THB. They were so more in control of the EMG proceedings.

Which one did you prefer?
Didn't think about that until posted.
If I never see the band again then I 'm glad I caught these shows which compensates for missing Past-Present-Future.

Thanks for that! Great thread!

I loved it at Barrowlands. If someone gave me a choice of seeing them once there but i'd not get to see the band again for 10 years i'd still go. Epic

Agreed! Barrowlands and Edinburgh Usher Hall were both amazing for THB, will be a completely different experience seeing EMG at the Liberty stadium.

I will let you know after Leeds tonight. The Manchester Albert Hall THB show was outstanding, will be very surprised if they can top that tonight.

I'm also delighted Sean gets the drum solo in ADFL without the other band going "CNK!! CNK!!" over the end.

This is why I see Neil Young EVERY time he plays in Scotland. Scots crowds rule. 16 days till Neil's Hydro gig.
