It might not sound "worse" but it certainly isn't the sound of the Manics.

Two songs, International Blue and Design For Life. James’s voice sounded really good.
Saw someone on Twitter (who I presume was there) saying that they recorded or rehearsed International Blue, Distant Colours and Liverpool Revisited. Guessing we’ll get one of those two on the extended version. |

They need to get onto a much-watched show again like Strictly Come Dancing or whatever and play Heaven and make it as big and anthemic as they can, that'll definitely help sell the album and other stuff for them. Stuff like Liverpool Revisited is good, but it's short and over before it seems to get going, so hope that's not on Jools extended show, otherwise it seems like a strange promotional stint especially playing ADFL.

Maybe that's the whole point.

Just watched the two songs on Youtube now. International Blue was really good and ADFL was super good! James almost held off from singing "waahhh design..." right until the end chorus when it came back The 3rd guitar player didn't really play much but you know, James was still singing great and did enough on guitar on these two songs to make it work in my opinion The performance must have done something at least, as the album is up to no.27 on Amazon sales and when I looked a few days ago it was nearly at 100, so there's a handful of sales, yay Few more big TV spots and it could do wonders for sales.

Yeah it was a good performance. Design For Life was a surprise (or disappointment, given the new album) but James has really found his voice again.
Would love them to play the last half of the album live. Hoping something crops up over the next few months. |

Not watched it yet but good to hear it all sounded good. Think James had throat trouble last time they were on.

Quote:
How dare people get disappointed after the band repeatedly fail to promote an album some have bought 5-6 times over... I suppose we must be thankful they didn't feel the need to promote You Stole the Sun again... It does feel every time lately when someone posts some criticism of either a performance or the album, they get accused of running a hate campaign.

They were really good on Jools Holland and I liked that he spoke to them. I think International Blue is a perfect song to play live and Nicky's stage presence is always really something. I liked him without sunglasses though I loved how the camera zoomed to his sunglasses on the speaker. I thought James sounded great and I really liked the guitarist at the end.

I thought International Blue sounded really off - nothing to do with the band's performance but the mixing seemed all over place. I seem to be the only one though?

Don't complain about the extra guitarists too much. We cried for b-sides at gigs and got horses under starlight

No, I agree with that. Sounded really odd to me - I didn’t like the jean Michelle Jarre keyboards. Still delighted to see them on Jools again though.
