The fact is, if not for the Eric Prydz and Elvis Presley records that beat them (however low the sales were) they would have had two more number 1 singles. Charts have only ever been about who sold the most that week, whether it's a couple of thousand or a couple of million.

That's what i'm saying. It's not embarassing for them to have sold so few. It's not about the song being shit. I said it worse worse for the number 1 because getting to number 1 doesn't mean what it used to. You don't need to sell anywhere near as many records as you used to so it's not as much of a hit crashing in to number 1 then dropping

Ah ok, I see. Wasn't sure what you meant. Yeah, I agree.

To be fair, it was meant more of a 'general' 'well duh' aimed at my own statement more than at you specifically… sorry if it caused any offence!

To be honest, the fact that anyone anywhere bought TLORN still perplexes and amuses me.

This is interestng.

Does anyone have a list of how much each Manics single (and album) has sold to date? I wouldn't imagine the PFAYM and RTF/Futurology singles sold that well considering their lowly chart positions - unless downloads have now made the charts meaningless as a measurement of the success of new releases.

Album-wise, I recall reading that THB sold poorly on release, but that it has sold quite well as time has gone on and its reputation in non-Manics circles has improved. I also recall reading that Lifeblood is by far their lowest selling album.

I bought all those 3 singles on all formats. Nnixon and Souls were 2 CDs and a DVD and Autumnsong was 2 CD's and a vinyl. Shame they sold so few but oh well.

I'm the same. Singles for me are almost entirely about getting hold of b-sides and remixes. Maybe the odd nice cover, quote and of course that lovely, warm and comforting sense of completeness.
