Cardiff Library Opening 18th June 2009

Cardiff Library is having a nice grand opening on the 18th June, next Thursday. Apparently this will be a chance to see everyone's favourite Welsh band turn up and see just where the denizens of Cardiff can get some power before work comes and makes them free!

Anyone fancy a trip to see some ribbon cutting?

I remember hearing about this a while ago. I feel it would be pedantic to make the trip just for the ribbon-cutting...but then that's never stopped me before. If it was any sort of performance I would but if it's just to witness James wielding a pair of scissors for a couple of seconds I'm not sure.

I might pop on down to see what the fuss is about Where abouts is the new library in Cardiff anyway to anyone here who does know? I heard they were doing one, but I never exactly figured out where .

Not yet, I think Cardiff Council were trying to keep it underwraps as theres a blog here: http://anonthelibrarian.blogspot.com/ that when you google search originally includes their name but when you click on the link the text has been changed to read:

We will be having a 'grand opening' on June 18th - with 'mystery guest stars'. (I have been discouraged from actually naming them). In the modern world, the only usual reason for not naming your 'celebrity guest star' is because most people may not have actually heard of the latest drop-out from Big Brother or a person who came second in a talent contest - better to use the buzz words - 'famous' 'celebrity' 'star'.

As it happens, you probably have heard of this band, even if you couldn't necessarily name one of their songs, and they won't be playing - just showing their faces, and maybe cutting a ribbon, but hey.

And I could have sworn we had been open to the public for months now, but I am a mere public servant (touchs forelock)... not invited to the 'drinkies'... :-)

possibly I've not helped the situation by posting that, but seeing as theres a thread now anyway, it at least includes the fact they aren't supposed to be playing before anyone gets too carried away.

The new library does look very impressive, and only a stones throw from Spillers. I might go but only if I need to do some shopping in town at the time
