Ryder Cup Celebration Concert?

...at the Millennium Stadium, September 29th.

Being a showcase for Wales, I would imagine they are trying to get the Manics to play... along with Shirley, Tom, 'Phonics, Charlotte, Katherine and Shakin' Stevens. That's my predicted line-up.

Would be great if they did play. Hope they manage to get a really good line up.

It's possible! Someone's speculated it on the BBC Welsh Music blog

Quote:
An "all star line-up" of musicians, golfers and celebrities will appear at a concert to celebrate the start of the Ryder Cup on 29 September.

So far no acts have been announced for the Welcome To Wales event, being held at the Wales Millennium Centre, but organisers Live Nation told the Western Mail that the event will feature "international superstars including popular Welsh artists".

Assembly First Minister Carwyn Jones said, "This is an ideal way to kick-start proceedings and show the world what Wales has to offer".

Speculation will inevitably start about potential artists for the gig and we at BBC Wales Music will indulge by saying that Manic Street Preachers' Nicky Wire is famed for his love of golf. And their 2007 album was called Send Away The Tigers - surely no coincidence?

are the Manics big on golf, are they? i could see them happily signing on to play a pro-Wales event, but to celebrate the indulgent sport of the bourgeois elite?

When Mark Radcliffe hosted the breakfast show around 96 Nicky was saying he loves his golf and even uses Sean as a caddy! I've got it on tape somewhere but no technology to convert it to mp3.
I wouldn't get your hopes up too much though about them playing here.
But then I wouldn't rule it out... another bit of Manics news to keep us up in an uncertain air then...

You sure about that as surely there wasn't a Ryder cup in 2003 as wasn't it 2001 it went to being even years after September 11 - also surely Glastonbury is too early in the year for the Ryder cup US open maybe?

I remember him not liking it when Phoenix clased with the UK open in 1996. Also theres millions of golf loving references though from his appearance in golf punk to the ian woosnam verse James wouldn't let him have in Mr Carbohydrate and the reference to early Pringle wearing (they do make a nice pair of knee high socks though).

A question mark wouldn't go amiss when it's just idle speculation...

Yeah Ryder cup was in 2002 at The Belfry. The US Open was between 12-15th of June and i think Glastonbury started on the 27th??

Not sure what Dext is thinking off?

They shouldn't encourage him!

James has a golfing event (possibly) lined up anyway if he's one of the patrons roped in to appear at that golfing event thing for Martyn Williams Testimonial Year. Sure rounds of golf have been mentioned in interviews before.
