I'm completely out of the loop with the MSP podcast world, but noticed one called 'Culture, Alienation & Despair' on Spotify last night that claims to be by 'Manic Street Preachers'. At the moment there's just a short 15 second teaser but does anyone know if this is a legit official thing?

Anyway... some of the manic's best stuff is found in the b-sides but i agree a lot on here is quite conventional and missing better b-side material (IMHO). Like umm...

Starlover
Soul contamination
A vision of dead desire
Dead yankee drawl
Never want again
Hibernation
Are mothers saints
Too cold here
Love torn us under
Masking tape
Locust valley
Blackholes for the young
Buildings for dead people

Why not put ballad of the bangkok novotel on there if you really want to alienate the casual listener because i think something like this should appeal more to manics fans but the tracklisting doesn't quite achieve it.

Am i remembering this right that there was an online vote for the tracklisting on the official site? In my hazy memory too cold here came out on top but they didn't include it because the band hate the song.
So much good stuff left on the cutting room floor. Which would probably fill another disc... if they hadn't filled it with covers!

Y'see, i like that version of bright eyes but probably more for the fact of the context in which it was played.
You've got these 3 chaotic gigs where they all get nosebleeds after each night and they smash up all their instruments on the final night yet they put bright eyes in the set, there's a poignancy to it i can't explain.
Though there is a great version he did for the 2003 glastonbury interview.

And somewhere he was laughing, in a white-painted loft, distant fingers caressing the deck, tears of release streaking his face.

As a keen listener to your fantastic podcast, I'm especially looking forward to this episode. Lifeblood did nothing for me at the time and I just tried again in anticipation for it. Hopefully you guys can enlighten a huge fan of 75% of everything else they've done - no pressure!

Gotta be honest I wasn’t a huge fan of the Lipstick Traces disc 2 (covers disc) podcast, the general meh-ness of your feelings towards it really came through loud and clear! Even though I agree a second disc of more b-sides would have been a better idea. Oh well.

The new Greg Haver one is pure gold though! Loved it, definitely my favourite of the non-track-by-track episodes. Really interesting, and he seemed like a genuinely good guy.

Intrigued by what the Lifeblood reactions will be next time. Thanks for the time and effort you’ve all put in to this.

Yeah I really liked this episode! Especiqlly as this is a period the band have generally been quite dismissive of, it was great hearing Gregs recolections.

Brilliant interview with Greg Haver. Twas funny that he kept calling 1985 1984

Lifeblood is one of my favourite manics albums so looking forward to the next podcast.

That were a good bit of podding to listen to, with some surprising facts. I don't think i had any idea your love alone was an amalgam of james and nicky solo offcuts. Neat.

The guests that have been on here and manic street speakers have been well worth listening to, bringing their own hot takes and such.

Nicky's hay-on-wye gig is indeed legendary around these parts, already passed into myth and folklore for the few who witnessed it and of the two albums nicky's would be the one i return to.
For his follow-up we can but hope for the return of 'the man in the salmon pink suit' and his cassette recorder.

Greg's top 10 though...
