The demos could be acoustic, or pieced together in the same way those on the recent deluxe albums were. You never know though eh? As for the special editions, I like the fact that bands are making special editions worth paying the money for, however if the other tracks have been issued officially elsewhere the temptation is to go to iTunes to grab the songs that are unavailable elsewhere.

There's not much in the way of old GT demos from bootlegs on YouTube but the Suicide Alley demo is better than the single version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-_81H0brws That 6:25 demo of Motorcycle Emptiness on Disc 2 looks a bit suspicious though. |

They didn't write on acoustic in the early days and it showed. Every song was a weird chug-along
I reckon acoustic writing came in somewhere around THB, certainly EMG, although there may well have been exceptions...

Don't you think that is a bit of a bold statement to make? Unless you were present in the studio or in the bedroom/living room of one of the band, how can you say they definately didn't demo on an acoustic?

I could be completely wrong and probably am.

It always seems to me when they release acoustic 'demos' they've just recorded acoustic demo-sounding versions of the purpose of release, but that's just me....I see James as too much of a perfectionist to release shitty demos, and I don't think they had much love for acoustic songs in the early days, when it was all about electric guitar and noise.

They did a few acoustic-esque numbers in the early days such as R.P McMurphy, Aint Goin' Down, etc. I think the recent spate of demos released from Journal onwards were done for the sake of the bumping up the CD package.

I think it's just because of the change in situations. Back in the ye early days demos were pretty much all they could record due to no access to proper studios, and they also served as something to show to the record labels in order to get a deal. Making full-band demos made sense. Nowadays they've no need for any of that and the stripped-down demos are plentiful because they've always been a band relying a lot on one person's writing, so James(/Nicky) records sketches and early versions with his guitar before taking them to the band and fleshing the songs out in studio with them.

What with it being a promo from the label, it was always going to be.

Sorry to drag this up AGAIN, but, how were we to know that? There is no name of promo company on the photo of the CD inlay, and the post had no source. We're not mind readers!

As I understand it, the poster made reference to the Twitter account of a music writer who posted it when providing various info on Sunday. Not difficult to click through to that, even if it wasn't specifically on the first post of the picture. As it happens, that account is mine and I can happily confirm the CD was received via Hall or Nothing at the end of last week. I am not the curious sociopath some people conjured that might waste their time inventing such a thing.
