God doesn't have to get in the way to prevent Madonna working with them.

They'll have to make do with covering this...

Never does a day pass without me listening to that.

I could get behind Jimmy Page artistically, even though he's a bit of a dild. Madonna can sod off though, and Morrissey is one of the worst people in music, I'd be so gutted if he blemished a Manics song with his Kermit-on-Prozac droning.

Absolutely no, never ever to Madonna. Would be very happy with Jimmy Page and Morrissey probably would tell them to eff off like Wire predicted anyway! Not too fussed about a Reg Dwight collaboration either...

Hah, there's no way Madonna would agree to it. Would Morrissey, even?

I can see it now, Manic Street Preachers new single Let's Go Drink Coke! (Feat. Madonna)
with B-sides
Repeat (Elton John Mix) and
I Used to Think Heaven Knew I Was Miserable Then, But Now I Know I Had Nothing on This Wire Gentleman (Feat. Morrissey)

Didn’t Wire write 3 Ways To See Despair for Morrissey? I could have seen that working, except that 3WTSD is rubbish.

Madonna is an absolute no-no though.

All of them are now creatively irrelevant. They should aspire to work with innovative younger people not hoary old dinosaurs. Madonna, Morrissey and Page haven't made a half decent record between them in years.

Agree with all of this! What a wasted list of 'dream' collaborators. Boring and bland.

Maybe they should stop working with themselves if age is a defining factor.

Age aside, I do agree about them being fairly irrelevant. I try not to judge music on relevance anyway, it doesn't mean the music's good or bad. I enjoy Zeppelin but their influence has been so cemented that they're pretty much like wallpaper now, background and no longer the most essential band on Earth. Madonna's peak of relevance was surely the '80s, yet the only song of hers I like is from the late '90s.

Their influence is undeniable... their music is overrated. I get really tired of people who clearly wank to Stairway To Heaven, or go on about them being 'metal pioneers' (no, that was Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Zep were firmly rooted in blues).

Instead of Morrissey, why not work with Malcolm Eden from McCarthy? He'd probably get loadsamoney and the band would get to write songs with their hero!

This would have been entertaining if said back in 91 or 92 as a probably-not-sober joke.
