What is something tough that a Manics song or album has helped you through?
I know this sounds a bit silly
 But what is something you've experienced and has almost broken you but a quote, lyric, full song or album has helped you through something, given you something to relate to or even just given you an epiphany slightly?

Cheers buddy, it is such a cliche to say, this music got me through some hard times and such like, but on this occasion it is true. From May to November this year, I listened to nothing else but the Manics. Just had them on repeat (no pun intended). What about you?

Yup I totally get it!!
For me, it was when I was stuck in hospital with nutjobs - I sound like some Cult of Richey idiot but I was kinda genuinely ill. I spent the whole week with my earphones in and all the shit in my head seemed to become less and less relevant

Plenty of lyrics I can relate to, but two particular times/Manics eras, when I have felt supported or empowered by them.
The first was GT. Even though it was closing in on the EMG release by the time I discovered it in my bros old tape collection, I connected with what I felt to be an attempt at an empowering personal philosophy. Although the album seems politicised and discontented at first glance, I related to what I perceived to be a positive personal struggle going on within, to be heard and have meaning. I think of the album as capturing youthful energy and spirit, which was something I had lost at the time. I was never one for Sex Pistols type anarchy - which always seemed like anarchy for anarchy's sake - but lines like 'I am nothing and should be everything' felt more like anarchy for liberation. GT inspired me to act more confident as an individual even if I didn't feel it, which I appreciated despite not agreeing with every sentiment, such as 'fuck queen and country'. The second was Lifeblood. I empathised with Nicky's determination to reclaim their own memories and interpretations. Most important song for me was Cardiff Afterlife, as the lyrics seemed to support taking strength in one's own personal integrity. I felt urged by the sentiment to back myself against the flow of the wider world, or the opinions of other people, even if it meant my actions and decision-making were resented or misunderstood by those who would have me act differently.

I find it really interesting how Lifeblood is a great source of comfort, faith, hope and truth for some in what is perceived by others (mainly the band themselves!) as being as a failure of an album. It is definitely their 'cult'/'lost classic' record.

I agree. Lifeblood is a triumph in some senses, despite it being shat on by a lot of people.

As a adolescent it meant the world to me that there was a number one single about the Spanish Civil War*. It was a big popular band saying they weren't afraid to be political and history orientated, and for a geek kid like me that was pretty important.
*Alright, some people will argue about 'Fernando' but that's never been conclusively proven to be about the Spanish Civil War.
