Waugh was just using a long standing phrase, which probably comes from Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibbons. Published 1777, as the Enlightenment and neo-classical revival were really taking off. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_...e_Roman_Empire

Waugh talking about characters of the 1920’s, & us being in the 2020’s, could be an interesting similarity if it comes to pass…

My wild guess is the album will be called "The Decline and Fall of Manic Street Preachers" 🙃

Or we might be getting FD / Lipstick Traces part two with a new song. Dunno. But it’s out of character.

I’m starting to think more and more, that a b-sides/rarities compilation called The Decline And Fall of The Manic Street Preachers, 20 years on from Lipstick Traces, sounds plausible 😁 But that doesn’t explain the GT font use…(maybe a new additional song on the album evoking that era? 🤷🏻*♂️).

I like this! But I don’t know if they would be that on the nose 😉😂

I'd be up for that! However I'm a Greatest Hits skeptic. Surely it would look neater if a new album was released before another compilation?
If it's a GH then that's this thread concept knackered.

First we had A Secret History Of… and now we get The Decline and Fall of???

Manics supporting Oasis next year (just as in 1996)isn't an unrealistic possibility, I don't think. The cryptic message seems to be quite well timed with all the noise coming from the Oasis camp too.

I'd had the same thought - the first time I saw the Manics live was supporting Oasis so there's part of me that's intrigued. I'm in two minds about seeing the reunion - if they're on form it'll be great, but the audience could be horrendous and I suspect the tickets will cost an arm and a leg.

Son of Stopped 26-08-2024 10:58

Well Nicky committed the cardinal sin of saying "They don't need to!" when asked if Oasis should reform. I'm taking that (obviously true!) as a sign of disloyalty?
Let's hope the Oasis fans are released from prison for rioting this Summer by then!

LA ex 26-08-2024 16:02

We have music! I kind of like the bits in the teaser - feels like a continuation of the past two albums.

Teaser sounds promising... Sounds a bit like material on RIF and TUVL but without the piano, which is a good thing. In fact I'm getting vibes of International Blue and Sequels from it.

Not sure I like this whole fading out bits of the logo, makes me pessimistic (official site's had a makeover)
