I might have said this before but I'm looking forward to it all sounding out of tune and transposing in fade outs as it battles from the Truth Sound to your Truth Memories of how it went and what it sounded like. It would have to be a really special CD to begin with Nobody Loved You though. Wonder if Montana/Autumn/'78 will follow SYMM? Or would it follow the number one single? Be weird having Buildings For Dead People before My Little Empire if they do it that way. Just see how they've ordered the running. Never knew the band didn't get the release of it near the end of album! This probably hasn't been taken lightly to change how it appeared. |
It's just going to be the TIMTTMY tracklisting, but with Nobody Loved You swapped with Prologue as track 12. Followed by the remixes/live stuff on disc 1 and a disc 2 with album demos and b-sides + Nobody Loved You. It's not going to be some radical revamp of a classic album, just a seemingly random song swap.
I'm still excited for the demos etc because this is one of my all time top 5 albums I'm talking about and I'm intrigued to hear its rawer side, and I'm going to buy it because of that. But to expect anything more than the previous deluxe versions is just gearing up for a disappointment. |
Fair points both. I was just a bit shocked at this news because I really love that song and it seemed madness to remove it. It’s hard to imagine TIMTTMY without that song, it’s the emotional core of the album for me. When I first heard the album it was one of only three tracks that I liked! I did grow to love the album over time though.
Hopefully they’ll give us their reasoning behind it and maybe it will make more sense! |
Pleased we’re getting a re-release, but like others I find the decision to kick off Nobody Loved You quite odd.
Also odd to me personally, because it was literally the last Manics song I played on guitar the other day before this announcement (true story). I would have happily seen I’m Not Working or Born A Girl moved instead, maybe I should have played one of them!? But none of it really matters a great deal, it’s not like the original album will disappear or we can’t all make our own tracklistings. Still looking forward to it regardless, especially the now legendary and possibly doomed to disappoint ‘raw’ Tsunami... ! |
I think this is all great news. Looking forward to a mini tour in what will probably be May or June. I'm definitely going to make the effort to go as TIMT was the start of my fandom. The Point Dublin in June 1999 was my first ever gig. Just an amazingly surreal experience (including not realising that a girl asking me to take a picture with her and chatting to me between SFA and the Manics really meant. Once the band started with YSTS I forgot about her completely... Doh!)

Although I’d been a fan already for a little while, the original TIMTTMY tour was when I saw my first Manics gig so it holds quite special memories for me too. |
I was in favour of underdogs getting ditched. Welcome to the deadzone is a far superior song, plus I believe it only got left off the album cos it wasn't finished in time.
Not fussed over nobody loved you. I have 3 or 4 copies of the original album to play if I miss it. Think I prefer prologue as a song anyway :) |

Should be good to hear the extra material, although in fairness I live in distant hope that we might get to see some proper footage of the T in the Park show. Full show and it's "take my god damned money!" |

Prologue is good enough to be on any album but swapping out the only song with a bit of oomph in the last (rather dull) half of the album makes no sense to me either. Quote:
Thanks God this is actually happening though :) will we get more details this week now or are they hanging out for a Xmas release ? |
I think the oddest thing is not including the original version of NLY (or Underdogs on SATT 10 for that matter) even on one of the bonus discs. Unless the additional disc(s) is (are) literally too full to contain it, it feels a bit ... weird.
I guess they can do another reissue in the future and call it ‘complete for the first time ever...’ Don’t want to harp on the one negative though, I am still gen-oo-inely excited for this! :) |
I would have presumed they would have dropped Be Natural. That of course would be a bigger travesty but that's the song they tend to dump on during interviews.
The only reason I can think of for Nobody Loved You being dropped is that the lyrics might make Nicky cringe due to the Richey connection. A dry read of the lyrics isn't very forgiving and perhaps are insensitive. The band have distanced themselves from ownership of Richey and rhetorically repeat how difficult it was for his family. I think in light of that, the band might want to relegate the song to b-side status. That's just a random guess and the song's omission could be as easily be down to a random number generator. |

Surely the most concerning news...

Disappointed that NLY has been dropped from the re-issue as I think it's a great track. That said, I'm still excited for the box set. Here's what I hope will be included.
CD1: The album. CD2: The b-sides/unreleased song(s)/remixes (I'm hoping Anniversary To No-One actually exists but Sean has cast doubt on this) CD3: Demos / live tracks DVD/blu-ray: Complete festival set - Glastonbury or V99 most likely as both were definitely recorded for TV broadcast. Also a vinyl re-issue. |

It’s a shame about the demotion of Nobody Loved You. If they want to go down that route then I’m Not Working or Born A Girl would’ve been my choices as the album is pretty ploddy in the middle. I guess the alternative Tsunami will probably be similar to that brilliant V99 version. Looking forward to this and the official confirmation with format / tracklisting. |
