y2kyle16, I agree. Finally heard 'Postcards' last night on Youtube. Queen done right.

I've been there, I've cursed their name, artistically I prefer other bands from the 60s. However The Beatles rocked like big bloody bastards, you are denying yourself something special if you don't listen. Forget the bullshit that goes with it.

Why is Sean banging a saucepan lid in The Future Has Been Here 4 Ever?

lilienation 01-09-2010 14:12

First 4 seconds of The Descent = The Everlasting. When you hear it you'll shit bricks

YearZero 01-09-2010 14:13

The Future Has Been Here 4ever might actually be my favourite track, good old Sean.

I think Hazleton Avenue is one of this album's highlights. The last bridge before the final chorus is one of the most beautiful moments on the album. (as is the bit on PFAYM, SKON the beginning of Auto Intox and so on). There are loads of fantastic moments on this album.

i think those three, especially, are not just "equal" - they are light years better than most of the new album.

SATT (the song) is one of my favourite manics tracks

Just a funny thought on the whole Beatles debate:

I went to a gig with Sweden's most famous Beatles tribute band,
Liverpool, the other week, and a friend of mine were discussing The Beatles'
great contributions to popular music (and pop culture, for that matter).
He told us of someone who had slagged off the band as 'not very good'
and all that, to which he commented: "Gillar man inte The Beatles är man
fan DUM I HUVUDET!!!"
This translates roughly as "If you don't like The Beatles then you're fuckin'
retarded!!!" (or "a fuckin' idiot").
At the time I just said he was right on, cos the way he said it was
just so 'matter-of-fact' funny.

It might be a vaild point and all, but people are of course entitled
to not liking a certain band if they want to.

I like The Beatles immensely though :p

The album gets 7/10 from me.

Highlights: Some Kind Of Nothingness, A Billion Balconies, Hazleton Avenue, Auto Intoxication. These rank as classic Manics songs to me!

I can't stand the obvious rhymes in 'The Descent' imo that spoils a potentially great tune!

Nicky's singing remains very poor. And 'I Think I've Found It' is lyrically mediocre and musically unexciting.

Overall though I think it is a remarkable 10th album and they deserve alot of credit for it! Can't wait to hear some b-sides now :P

Just listening to golden platitudes. JDB's voice somehow seems to get better on every album - his singing on this song is incredible. What a fantastic musician he is.

Zee 01-09-2010 15:27

Well I'm underwhelmed. Have to give it a few more listens, a few tracks I liked right away, some were just there, none that I really dis-liked though. Just nothing "stand out" in my opinion.

"Written by James with a hangover after a stag do in Tenby."

I like I Think I've Found It even more now. :D

Pasquerel 01-09-2010 18:34

After first listen:

Uplifting, epic, puts a smile on my face = I love this album!
Absolute favourites: Auto-Intoxication (very powerful), I Think I've Found It (Balalaika Rock, couldn't believe when I first heard it, very catchy riff), TFHBHF (Nicky sings + Sean trumpet + gospel choir - weird, but good), SKON (Classic Manics awesomeness)
OK: Hazelton Avenue, ABBFTS, (INW)JTEOL, PFAYM, The Descent
Low points: DBE (bad closer, doesn't really work), Golden Platitudes (boring), AWMIE (filler)

ITIFI for third single !!!
