I'm enjoying this new disc. Every song is listenable and enjoyable. No complaints from me. Not many records make me smile. This one does. It's done its job. Each listen is better. Many albums get three or four listens from me. Then I listen to certain songs. I can listen to every song on PFAYM. I'm even recommending it to people who have never heard of the Manics, which, from where I am, is a lot of people. I've spent lots of money on albums where I've liked one or two songs. I can't wait to get my CD later this month or early October.

Closes eyes to avoid seeing other posts! Aussie chap I chat to on Last FM has listened to the leak and says he really likes it. He likes how the band have a harder rockier side and a poppier rock side, so the thumbs up from him!

You see, I do like the album and it does please me that the band are getting more popular again and that they've produced another fantastic pop record, I hope this album does really well, they deserve it. There's just something about the album which doesn't quite grab me like every other Manics record has done, maybe I should try one of the alternative running orders. I am really looking forward to hearing it all live.

Apart from four or five tracks off Journal, it's surely some of the best music they've done since EMG. And Journal was a tribute album of sorts: there simply isn't going to be another Holy Bible. Perhaps some people would be happier moving onto another band, or alternatively just stop buying/listening to their new output. I'm not having a go. I can fully understand people might say the albums slightly disapponting or not as good as EMG or GT or whatever. But just saying 'it's really shit' or 'they've lost it' when it's blatantly not shit but a typically lifting, slightly cheesy in parts, fantastic in other parts new manics album . . . I think these people should find another band. If there were genuinely going to be another 20 rock albums better than PFAYM sold this year I wouldn't be writing on this forum, I would be listening to them. For those who think that PFAYM is not among the top 20 of the year i I think you should go and listen to what you consider is. I love the manics becasue I enjoy their music. No matter how great the lyrics and the ideas etc, if the music was shit I wouldn;t be here. The manics make records to be enjoyed. It's not like watching your hometown team where you're obliged to keep following them as they slide down the divisions. If you're not enjoying the music, to such an extent that you would label as "shit" a collection of songs that they've presumably spent more than a year working, why are you still wasting time on here?

Maybe some, not all, of the people who are saying the album is shit and that band have lost it are so scathing because the band means so much to them. Just a thought. No time to expant upon this, also, in what way was JFPL a tribute album?

Really? Maybe I downloaded the wrong leak.

How was it not? The band has repeatedly said so. It was a special occasion album done to celebrate Richey's memory and talent. They said it's highly unlikely they make another record that sounds like it, because they can only get that type of sound with Richey's lyrics. I guess their whole post-Richey discography also kinda confirms this, doesn't it?

Obviously it's a pop record. But in the instruments, arrangements and influences departments, it contains a lot more things that aren't usually a part of MSP records. So yeah, it can be considered more experimental (in the sense of trying/incoporating different things). You have banjos, sitars, gospel choirs, etc, etc, etc. Certainly much less straightforward/standard than SATT, KYE, GATS or GT.

Clearly the words 'experimental' and 'Manics' don't fit comfortably with Wim.

But I'm not here for any of that, I'm going to go COMPLETELY off topic and talk about Michael Bay for no reason whatsoever. Any given Michael Bay blockbuster is derivative, cynical and artistically redundant. It has a predictable finale, with some awful cliche-ridden dialogue spewed by wooden actors and the same old set pieces along the way. In spite of all this, it's still a reasonably fun way to pass the time if you're in the right mood and don't feel like giving your brain a workout with some arthouse.

Would I own a Michael Bay movie on DVD? No. Would I watch a Michael Bay film on TV if I was fed up and in need of some big bangs? I've been known to. Would I waste more time than the above brief paragraph moaning about the flaws in a Michael Bay movie? No, as you will discover over the coming weeks. All the moaning in the world can't change Michael Bay. Transformers 3 is already on the way.

cameron33 04-09-2010 10:10

So should I watch Transformers 3 or not goddamnit??

franny 04-09-2010 10:12

NO!

Slideling 04-09-2010 10:45

 Heh.

Scarecrow 04-09-2010 12:49

This album keeps growing on me. All We Make Is Entertainment is fucking brilliant.

Or they just don't like the album.

UEF 04-09-2010 13:00

It's getting better, but the above comment about it being the first album that doesn't grab you... have you not heard SATT?

I've listened to it approx 10-15 times now and it's becoming nicer to listen to. I can even remember how Don't Be Evil goes after 15 listens.

Hence him saying 'maybe some, not all'.

Slideling 04-09-2010 13:05

It's just kind of annoying that everything to do with the Manics is deemed profound by *some* people. :P Not liking an album /= deep feelings for the band, in general.
