Is there a mandatory religious element to this, or is 'godparent' used in the sense of an alternative guardian for the child should the parents not be able to care for it. What are the sanctions against people who refuse to have godparents for their children or against godparents who fail in their duties? I'm fascinated by this idea.

For instance, in Hungary, you have to name two persons (I think they don't have to be married) as godparents of your child, in case you erm expire so they could be his/her guardians, even if the child is not baptized. I guess it doesn't often come to that as normally grandparents take care of the children if needed (at least, that's what I see). I'm not sure about the legal part though.

That is such great news, just lovely:)

bumped into james last Saturday by my home.
I think he'd had a few.
he 'thinks' the new album is sounding good!
very keen to point out that the track played on radio wales had absolutely no connection to the album & was just a one off.

looked very cool wandering about with his glasses on & jacket over shoulder.

such a sweet guy - effortless cool

Littlesue 26-04-2013 23:30

Nice!! , thanks for keeping us informed Jack x

jack_duckworth 26-04-2013 23:37

also, something from a few weeks back I thought was really sweet;

when the new bowie album came out we had a big display of catalogue/merch/t-shirts etc going on.
nicky was in buying stuff and had my pal reserve him a bowie berlin shirt for the next day as he didn't have enough cash on him.
reserved under 'mr wire'
he popped in the next day for it.

*edit; 'mr wire' was not stated by him - my colleague knew him!*

I once saw Sean in the St James Centre in Edinburgh, the day they were playing the Corn Exchange. He had a baseball hat on down over his eyes, i said "Hi Sean" and he looked surprised that he had been recognised!

He thinks he's invisible. Sometimes he is. I've watched him walk through a crowd of fans leaving a Manics gig. He keeps his head down, and makes it all the way through without anyone recognising him.

Wasn't James seen before a gig once? Once the crowd had been let in I think

He was regularly in the crowd at his solo gigs whilst the support were on. Hardly anyone approached him at the gigs I was at.

onqpr 29-04-2013 20:04

My (very well trained) mum saw all three of them in Monmouth last week. The town is near Rockfield recording studios, they said they weren't really recording anything, but there's pretty much nothing else in Monmouth. How exciting!!

If Sean doesn't want to be noticed, Sean is not noticed.

Yeah he was doing the rounds at the Newbridge gig but probably had loads of friends and family there

I saw him hanging around at Newbridge, Birmingham (With setlist in hand) and Sheffield. I was up on the balcony at Stoke and didn't notice him at that one :)

Were you at Stoke as well? You might have said before but I've probably forgotten! :D I was up on the balcony as well with my mate!

Yep, myself and my lady at the time were on the upper right hand side as you look at the stage, right at the front.

All I can remember was James dancing during ADFL whilst the audience sung parts. Cute!

Nicky walked through the crowd at The Blackpool gig in '97, past the bar and then off towards the back of the main room. He had a huge parka on and no one noticed. My fella noticed him but didn't know who he was and asked me, he was off down the hall by then...

Cool as usual.

i'm sure someone mentioned seeing James briefly at one of the 2009 gigs around the bar.

I went to Monmouth today and didn't see the Manics, but I did see a man walking down the high street with an owl on his shoulder. Fairly bizarre.

onqpr 05-05-2013 10:44

Gah! I live there for twenty odd years and never see a cool owl man!

They're definitely about though, my mum saw them again a few days ago.

MSPKYE 05-05-2013 11:41

Yeah they're definitely there, when Nicky spoke to Richard Bacon on 5Live he said he was at Rockfield

amay 23-05-2013 17:31

Not technically the Manics, but this afternoon I walked past Wayne and Sean Read (I hope I got his name right) near Cardiff Library - I presume the band must be doing something in their studio nearby!

wireobsessed 23-05-2013 19:02

Probably really busy with all teh prep for the album and Lions tour plus getting ready for the festivals this summer. All good news.

Sparklyl 12-07-2013 14:53

I've seen James in the crowd at a Manics gig during the support...which i think was Ian Brown? He was stood right next to me wearing a hat. I was far too nervous to bother speaking to him, plus you know, crowds etc would have gathered.

Manicben 13-12-2013 11:30

Disappointingly I've not heard any stories of fan encounters with James wishing people a Merry Christmas. Usually he starts wishing people Merry Christmas in October. :P

AK47 13-12-2013 11:55

I saw Nicky in HMV newport on Tuesday. He was picking up an ipod dock.

Manicben 13-12-2013 12:25

He truly has embraced the now.

allisvanity 13-12-2013 12:37

Quite depressingly un rock and roll though really isn't it?

wireobsessed 13-12-2013 13:05

Probably a Christmas present for the kids:)

Takk 13-12-2013 15:20

Maybe he's gonna smash it.

relic 13-12-2013 17:31

Misread that as iPod duck and really did wonder ...

He might take it back when he discovers it doesn't play cassettes... (sorry Nicky.. I jest).

I hope he didn't get a lightning connector-only model for 30-pin connector iPods. Or vice-versa. Most of the docks have an analogue connection too though. Or bluetooth, and we know how he loves bluetooth. In zones!

No, he is entitled to his private life.

beautifuldistortion 16-12-2013 12:08

All the celebrities I've met (and it's been quite a few - mainly due to work) have been happy to have a quick chat!
As long as you don't pester them whilst eating or with family then it's usually all good in my experience! Surely they expect a bit of attention?
As long as politeness is there what's the harm in engaging in a little talk?

How come when I said 'Oi, Nicky, look at my penis!' he just ignored me then? :(

like his shopping trips not being posted on the internet? ;)

Jim Bradfield was down at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff yesterday afternoon. I was hanging by the bar waiting for someone and did a bit of a double take when he appeared a few yards down the bar. He looked fine, no trace of a beard comeback thankfully. Think he was having some food, presumably with family or friends but I didn't see who. I didn't pester him, playing it cool like the iceman I am, just excitedly texting my girlfriend (while still 'casually' glancing over at him) 'FUCK ME, JDB IS HERE!!'. :D
