Until now, the band have never repeated themselves, and now they're making a conscious effort to force out bland, flat, formulaic balls.
The songs just have no direction, the lyrics are fairly awful and they've just thrown as much pointless pomp at it as possible. Purely as a reaction to JFPL. It's boring.

+1

Couldn't disagree more. If anything, it's the pop aspect of SATT done right. All the songs have very strong melodies/hooks, the lyrics are some of Nicky's best in a long time and the strings and choirs (which I guess is what you refer to as "pointless pomp") are gorgeous. Opinions.

I've posted my review on my blog.

Going to get it today! As for the moaners you can always listen to the boring top 10 if you prefer?

Littlesue 20-09-2010 06:16

I hope my copy from Play.com comes today, it seems as though the album is 6 months old based on all the posts!!

I found PFYM really enjoyable for the first five to ten listens but I'm a bit worried about its staying power. The majority of the songs seem a bit lightweight in that regard. JFPL on the other hand is fortunately proving to be the opposite - I like it more the more I listen. Although there's still two or skippable tracks, there's a whole bunch that just seem to get better and better with each listen. I still like the new album though - and will be great to listen to during the rare occasions I'm in a good mood. During my more regular suicidal phases I shall increasingly be turning to JFPL. Still, I rate PFYM fifth best, although by the time of the next album it may have slid down another couple of places.

1. THB
2. EMG
3. JFPL
4. TIMT
5. PFYM
6. LB
7. GT
8. KYE
9. GATS
10. SATT

Tesco have put the album at 5 on their album chart.

It's 4 at HMV, 7 on Play.com and 6 on Amazon.

#15 on Itunes.

I'm off to get it from my (new) local HMV, I will be unimpressed if they don't have the deluxe one.

Okay, there seem to be another 1000 pages to view since my last post.

Any problems and I'm here until 6 today but the sales guys are back in their office today :)

I'm loving the book, especially the guitar list. 335 "69" lucky bastard!!

centralscrutiniser 20-09-2010 10:05

Kev, is there any chance of Townsend reducing the big box set if you've got any left in a few weeks time?

Takk 20-09-2010 10:05

Hmm, I really like a couple of songs, I'm finding the need to skip about 5, and enjoying the others....bit disappointing really.

It's also #2 on the Amazon MP3 chart, largely thanks to it being on offer for £3.99.
