I hope Adrian Chiles had a black armband on then!

It's just SATT Pt 2 & The Descent (Pages 1 & 2) is just about the same as the song SATT

No moving on musically, its pretty poor 3/10

albireo 27-09-2010 09:32

Pitchfork gave it 7.5 / 10!
That's not too bad, i guess..

While I wouldn't say that Postcards From a Young Man is quite the late-career masterstroke Journal For Plague Lovers was, it is still a product of a re-energized band. Whether or not it actually garners them the hits and mass audience they're aiming for (and at least in Britain, it seems inconceivable that it won't), they've managed to make an inviting, populist album that deserves the attention. It's maybe not quite heavy metal Tamla Motown, but it is Manic Street Preachers, and here, that's enough.

metacritic score to go up!

I think the production on it is pretty good, actually. Way better that TIMT (another guitar/strings album) as it actually sounds like a band playing in a room with a choir and orchestra as opposed to all the slick layering of TIMT which left me wondering if anybody playing on the album had actually recorded on the same continent as anybody else. I don't always have great faith in our Dave, but I think the boy done good on this one!

Ha! Now all the chin-stroking pseuds who have gone out of their way to ridicule the album because they can't see songwriting wood for production trees are going to have to face up to the fact that the Master Chin-stroking Pseuds have forgone negative hysteria in favour of judging it as as the solid but unspectacular effort it is.

A lifetime of viewerless blogs/Radiohead forums awaits their humble return.

Wait, did Pitchfork just say It's Not War is 'easy to enjoy'? What a bunch of fucking morons!

the important thing is that Collins is still the major challenger.

Hahah... not knowing much about charts I actually thought you were talking about Edwyn Collins and just noticed today that you meant Phil Collins ... just saw that Edwyn landed on #54 rather than #1.

I've been listening to this for a few days now and it's pretty good I guess. Although it does sound like a poor man's SATT.

That's an extremely poor man if that's the case...

Hey, SATT is a quality album! Isn't the start of the decent just the opening of SATT though without the organ? o.O And it's not war is just your love alone

I do like it though...

Overall not bad,Probably won't make my top 3 manics albums but probably top 5. Favorite songs is Entertainment, Balconies, Auto Intoxication.

Auto Intoxication actually brought ears to the eyes a couple of times! I was blown away and so proud.

Best Nicky lyrics since TIMTTMY. Didn't cringe too many times at the lyrics.

 fantastic typo :)
