Just listened to the demo disc for the first time, really interesting stuff, and I get the sense that there was a much angrier record there before they polished it up and added the strings and choirs.

Still like what we got as a finished product though... however I find myself wishing Nicky sang Some Kind of Nothingness because I really like his voice on the demo.

Actually, why the heck isn't he singing McCulloch's bits when they do it live?!

Regards,
Marwood.

Postcards got some amazing reviews in Belgian magazines and newspapers.

Wow I've really grown to love "I think I've found it"...........didn't think that would happen.

It has definitely risen through the ranks for me!

It's always been in the top ranks.

Well I'm a bit late on the PFAYM review bandwagon but I've been listening almost daily since it came out.

I have to say I quite like it. James' voice during the Descent chorus sounds amazing... Auto Intoxication has a lovely punky riff that wouldn't have been outta place on JFPL.

It definitely gets better as it goes on... I think I've found it, All we make is entertainment and Don't be Evil are cracking wee tracks. DbE is definately my favourite.

Saw them in Edinburgh a few weeks ago, but was disappointed with the lack of PFAYM tracks! Those that were played went down pretty well though :)

PS. Hazeltown Avenue? What were they thinking :(

The Gutless Wonder 18-10-2010 18:25

They were obviously thinking 'Let's write a gloriously happy song!'.

As much as I love this album, I'm starting to realise that it's yet another victim of the loudness wars. The title track is particularly bad for dynamic range, and you can tell that the keys have compressed way too much. Anyone else agree with this? 'Tis bad for my ears in any case :(

"The disaster isn't coming it's already arrived. I am so lucky I think that I survived"

Ironic that this is the song a friend was listening to today when she was run over? A higher power maybe oooohhhhh. (she is okay so all is well)

Well the album has been out for 5 weeks now or something, anyone still listening on a regular basis? I've got it on about twice a week now. Played it today and for the first time got bored of it and turned it off, although I have played it to death in the past 5 weeks.
Fav 3 songs I listen to most: SKON, Balconies, Hazelton.
Least 3 I listen to: Don't be Evil, Golden Platitudes, The future.....

I've listened to it about 7 or 8 times in total. For a new Manics album that is an incredibly poor showing. Journal I listened to every day for about a month.

I'm still listening to it once or twice a week. I've not tired of it at all. It's a great album.

I'm still really liking it and my fella thinks it's probably his favourite album. Its on in the car and makes motorway journeys much better:)

Son of Stopped 18-10-2010 21:18

Still listening to it. Am getting slight cravings for their other albums, but at the moment PFAYM it is.
