Won't be able to go now because of dodgy trains and I couldn't justify a 7/8 hour round trip by car, so I've had to let go of my tickets. Absolutely gutted and I know I'll regret it but I hope everyone has fun tonight.
|
First gig down! Enola Alone to start. She is Suffering and Peeled Apples. Decline, HIPS and Paintings from the new album. Tristesse too! and Motown!
Queuing for gig two now, I’ll be perfectly happy with the same set list again! |
Glad I didn't go now. Just three new songs for an album launch gig! I'd have been annoyed if I spent four hours driving there and got that setlist!
|
Fantastic show !!
I'm off home for a night in with dvds and scotch |
Maybe they would have done more new songs if the album hadn’t been delayed? It did feel more like a normal gig than an album launch. But bloody brilliant all the same. The crowd were well up for it!
Freezing a little bit now. Hope they let us in again soon! |

BTW it was much busier than the TUVL album launch I went to…
|
For an album launch show there's not much new album... a few pleasant surprise appearances on the set list - although (if setlist.fm is correct) no You Love Us in the set must be the first in a very, very long time!
|
Have to say I'm impressed at Peeled Apples and She Is Suffering in the setlist. Aside from the Bible anniversary gigs I've not seen SIS live very often, and Peeled Apples is an absolute barnstormer of a song and one of their finest openers.
The lack of other new songs is curious, wonder if it was down to the album delay or something else entirely, could be a number of reasons. |
BoR and Dear Stephen/Steven (heard about this via text so not 100% confirmed) played at the evening gig. Now I would have loved to have heard those two if they were both played. And BOR definitely was (and sounded better than the recording).
|
Was at both shows; can confirm that at the second one they played Brushstrokes of Reunion and Dear Stephen instead of People Ruin Paintings and Your Love Alone.
|
This is correct- Brushstrokes sounded great but I wasn’t overly impressed with Dear Stephen, a bit bland on first hearing. Chorus lyric is ‘dear Stephen please come back to us’. May sound better on the album!
Both amazing gigs though, I had an absolute blast. My best start to a gigging year for a long time! |
For me Peeled Apples alone made it worthwhile. An absolutely huge song and one of their very best. Would love them to play more from that album.
Brushstrokes sounded immense too, and I really enjoyed Hiding in Plain Sight. |
Peeled Apples is a huge song indeed, but tiny numbers of people in the room knew it. A similar number to those that give their approval for Nicky’s teased offering of Ballad of the Bangkok Novatel.
