Just got to listen to Studies in Paralysis - sounds like a b-side really, tho I do like the chord progression.

"Studies in Paralysis" slaps really hard, the Wire/Bradfield interplay in the chorus is such classic KYE. It definitely sounds like it was left a little unfinished in the vaults but I'm really impressed - it would slot perfectly as one of the era's b-sides that I would have repeat-listened endlessly in the early 00s (and still do!).
That "transition" between the first chorus and second verse really reminds me of dodgily edited looped songs you'd find on P2P. |
Nice little lo-fi rocker.

The mixing on it is fantastic and that certainly bodes well for the rest of the remixed tracks…but after listening to it a few times this morning on Spotify, there’s really no escaping the fact this is a spruced up demo. The lyrics feel very underdeveloped and that shoddy ending is awful, the way Sean stops playing after the others stop, like it’s a demo that they’ll retake later. It doesn’t feel like a finished song to me but again, I’m prepared to hear it in the context of the album and see if that makes a difference to my opinion. Still an enjoyable enough song.

Here it comes!

That was a fun brief chat! I think it's the weirdest James vocal in existence.
There was that 2000(?) one off novelty hit. I apologise for reminding you of it. Chaceron. Cakeron? It had lyrics going "nurrdurr" in a nasal mumble. So so sorry to have reminded you of this. You'd done so well forgetting it until now. But his voice sometimes reminded me of that. It's a more grungey and loosely recorded Epicenter. I'd definitely play the two back to back. I like it. Will probably make up in the tracklisting. That time in work when your an irritable zombie just focusing on getting the last job of the day done. There's a similar autopilot in the song. But still without complete mindless abandon as aware enough to change music. Which probably negates my point further. Bring on September and whatever publicity statements they bring out in the meantime! |
The video editor showed James doing one of those faked lip sync things, when Nicky was singing
|
That 'hanging on' bit just makes me think that James forgot the lyrics but went all in to make folk think it was intentional.
|
The video also showed James playing the Coral electric sitar which was all over TIMT, but I don't remember it being on KYE. Might it be TIMT-era footage?

The footage of them rehearsing must be Cuba?

That was my guess too, Nick likes to rehearse sitting down.
