My signed vinyl and CD just arrived. The signed prints were inside the shrink wrap, at first thought they'd not put them in. Now to find some time to listen.

EDIT: Also a review!

Stuart Bailie's review is a bit of a throwaway. I'm sure he listened through it once and typed up 150 words without giving it any more thought.

Uncut's reissue of the week has probably already been posted and better https://thequietus.com/articles/3203...ue-2022-review

"Fulfilled" now waiting in silence listening for a door knock.

Four tracks into Solidarity (went Solidarity first) and I just had to yelp -- this is amazing! Don't know what people's problem with Door to the River is, very interesting version, so sharp and fits super well after So Why So Sad (Avelanches).

Half way into Rosebud and Door to the River definitely feels like a new album to me, not just a reshuffle. Everything feels and is very exotic and novel. Full sixties jangle pop Manics album.

What a glorious project!

Honeymoon period and all that but this must easily be the best Manics reissue that they've done.

Well, there it is. Although these thirteen tracks are the only ones I considered for inclusion, I did experiment with different running orders. Finally I sequenced it as it now is and suddenly it just felt perfect to me. Had these songs in this order with these specific mixes been the album we got in 2001, I think it’s probable that Know Your Enemy would’ve become one of my favourite Manics albums.

KNOW YOUR ENEMY (Playlist)

IrelandCalling4 09-09-2022 12:55

Dont have Spotify and listen mostly on YouTube. As usual, Manics channel playlist of all 49 includes the videos or original versions instead of 2022 version for some of the tracks.
Most are there, thankfully, but cannot locate 2022 Dead Martyrs, Purification, Last Painting LA Mix and one or two others. Prob easy to locate but my searches never reveal them!

Physical copy due Monday for delivery

Just having a quick Queen is Dead break, then back to Door to the River and Solidarity!

Praying for a UK warm up date or two before they go to the US so we can get at least a few of these aired properly! Rosebud needs to be played live and I want some goodies like Intravenous Agnostic, Convalescent, Dead Martyrs, Epicentre etc.

Apparently the next step is to combine Rewind the Film and Futurology in to one sprawling, messy, double album for their tenth anniversary ;)

Always thought that was THB10 or EMG10 - a genuinely new concept, with DVDs

Groundhog Days sounds sooo good, I do feel like that should have closed the album though.

I've never been a big fan of Let Robeson Sing. But that 'sing it loud, sing it proud' bit really lifts the end for me.

I was expecting to hate Door To The River after all the other comments, but I really enjoyed it. I like it's more simplistic style.

Overall Door To The River is a thumbs up from me. Now onto Solidarity.

In line with the official press blurb, I feel like this doesn’t replace the original album, but “enhances it”. I don’t think there are many tracks I immediately prefer to the original versions, but I do like a lot of them as alternate versions, and all the extra stuff (previously unreleased tracks, demos) are lovely to have.

There are some very odd moments too where I feel like I don't really get what they were going for (yet). It all sounds more cohesive as an album (or two) production wise, but I think that kind of risks losing the mad mess that was so charming about the original… or would do if this didn’t feel, (and as mentioned wasn’t explicitly billed as) entirely complementary, rather than a revisionist replacement.

I also think I’m finding the new production and tracklistings a bit jarring so far just because I’m so used to the old ones. There’s probably a bit of a wall of personal nostalgia in the way me enjoying this properly yet.

Overall it’s a great release though, and I really appreciate the effort that has gone into making it something more interesting than a standard re-issue.

Yep, reckon you've cracked it.

James just did an impression of a Seagull during the solo in My Guernica.

Maybe Tomorrow as the other Jones sang. But only post was a letter saying a decision had been taken and they'd send me a letter to let me know what that decision is.
I've got two orders with "Fulfilled" and curse my rusted bolts for not buying from official store sooner.

Marconi Delorian 09-09-2022 14:59

Wonder if we can get a deep dive on the remixing process from Dave Eringa?
