The reissue is in top 5 in the middleweek charts(#3) Robbie is outselling the top 10 combined so maybe it will finish at the place it's at the moment (?), it could even pass Ozzy for #2.

"Living legend Ozzy Osbourne"

Somehow I find both words in the front of the name not really fitting.

Hey folks, it's been a while.. (hi Donkey, miss you!)

It's been a rollercoaster ride with some of recent MSP releases, I haven't really enjoyed SATT or TIMTTY reissues and I still haven't decided if I like the last two albums at all.

I wanted to listen to KYE 20 without prejudice just out of curiosity and to rehash some of those old memories - it was one of my first MSP albums.

Man, the first disc is fantastic! I love the remixed songs, Ocean Spray sounds great and there are some interesting details all over the first cd that were buried before. I can imagine this might become my favourite album for this Autumn. DTTR without strings sucks a little bit, but I can understand why did they include this version. The one with the strings should be included on Lifeblood, to be honest.

On the other hand, I'm not too fond of the Solidarity "album". I'm probably in the minority, because I've always loved Miss Europa and Wattsville Blues. I miss the original outro in WB. Another thing I don't like at all is why did they included Bourgeois? It doesn't fit at all. I know people on here prefer the nex mix of Elian, but to me it sounds weird and maybe too much spacey if you know what I mean, almost like US mix of THB.

Overall, I'm loving this release and it's fun to really listen to all those differences - maybe it would be cool to list all of those when compared to the original mixes? First disc is awesome and even though I have some issues or WTF moments with the second one, I still like it.

Same here mate, same here. :-)

Baby Elian is one of the stupidest lyric ever, so I don't really enjoy any version, but still I believe the best version is Cardiff Coal Exchange. The falsettos at the end of verses are magnificent. And there is the best version of Miss Europa ever there too (" I don't know the fucking words!"), unfortunatelly Wire should be ashamed of this pre-Brexit shit lyric too. IMHO.

I am sure Solidarity will grow on you. IA, FTS, Convalescent, MG sound like bright, huge and direct, exactly like they should have been mixed then. Which was probably not done because of the furious try to create some coherence between the dark and bright side of the album.

The more I think about it, the less song I would have included on the album(s)
The should have done something like Queen II with white/black side:

Ocean Spray
Door to the River
Just a Kid
A Year of Purification
Convalescent

The Masses Against the Classes
Intravenous Agnostic
Found That Soul
My Guernica
Dear Martyrs

Or even without Masses...

My signed insert did look massively different from the pictures in the Spiller's Records link?

Apologies if this has been posted and as I've not logged in for a while this might have had some feedback already....I decided on the double vinyl and a KYE tshirt, vinyl is fine but the print on the shirt is definitely on the piss. Is it me, my eye sight or just crap production? Ta x

I agree with every word.

I can’t stop listening to this - it’s like listening to a new album. I love it to much.

I also thought that Solidarity would be my favorite… but Door To The Diver is simply fantastic.

I dont know if the pacing of the first two then going into the last few of the original album and then masses makes it hard to listen to it and it makes me have an adverse reaction to the album of Solidarity, but DTTR is almost perfect(SWSS remix notwithstanding).

DTTR is the album Wire was looking for with all that thinkering of tracklists. And it's such a great album that I think only Journal is better from the manics albums that followed. It is in that high regard from me.

This might sound obvious to some, but don’t dismiss the 3CD Pack and just put it on the shelf like so many Manics Digipacks: there is an amazing story of the remixing and re-release inside

That's good to hear it's selling quite well. I reckon it will make the top 10 by Friday's final announcement :) I'm still waiting on my 3CD and vinyl and t-shirt to arrive, hope it comes today. I can't wait to play all the songs and really study them, and check out the demos too and read whatever is in the book. Exciting!

Routine Builder 13-09-2022 07:55

I've bought the double vinyl for £26. I'm going to wait for the 3CD version to drop price a bit rather than spending another £25. It seems quite expensive compared to the earlier and superior re-release packages (10th anniversary of THB and EMG).

Jon Earls has given it two stars and complained about the vinyl in Record Collector.
He used to edit Teletext didn't he?

Although it torpedoed the Manics’ commercial peak, 2001’s sprawling sixth album was a wild and wonderful adventure. It was impossible to predict what was coming next: sunshine pop, agit-punk, playful funk, goth, grandiose balladry. The reissue splits the album in two, as originally intended. The relatively commercial rock is on disc one, experiments on disc two, with a demos CD added. The previously unreleased, menacing Studies In Paralysis and epic Rosebud are inserted in the middle. It should have all worked, but the vinyl edition is a disgrace. Omitting the demos and alternative Tom Lord Alge mixes is understandable. Dropping seven of the other songs and squashing the second disc’s 12 songs onto one LP isn’t. It makes an overdue reassessment a shoddy compromise: 21 years on,
the enemy is Sony.

I too would like to know if the tshirts are of decent quality. I very much like the look of them but don't want the print fading after one wash as with my Futurology shirt.
