Postcards From A Young Man Thread

So this is the official thread for any album news, tracklisting, artwork etc...

cant fucking wait!!

everlasting 01-06-2010 09:11

Should be good, I'm sure. Tim Roth image though....hmmm. Wonder what he thinks about being part of a Manics album?

foundthatsoul 01-06-2010 09:14

Love that title, PFAYM- good acronym too!

Pasquerel 01-06-2010 09:17

I find the title somewhat melancholic, even a bit sad. Hope the music will be more uplifting, Nicky spoke about serious disco influences, wonder if it's true.

handsome_devil 01-06-2010 09:23

I love the title, 3 and a half months is far too long though.

Uh oh. Miss Europa 2: Electric Boogaloo?

handsome_devil 01-06-2010 09:27

If they're trying to reconnect with the public or whatever, I assume there will be proper singles from this album then?

y2kyle16 01-06-2010 09:28

anyone think this may be the last one?

Takk 01-06-2010 09:32

No....jesus, not with the splitting rumours already.

It is unevitable when new album infos are coming... :D A good old Manics-fan tradition.

handsome_devil 01-06-2010 09:34

Ooh a postcard and a quote on the official site, cool.

tzb 01-06-2010 09:34

No, as Nicky explicitly said it wasn't.

MSPKYE 01-06-2010 09:36

Maybe they could release some Manics stamps for the tour merch...Nicky dressed as the Queen :scared:

y2kyle16 01-06-2010 09:37

what does - one last shot at mass communication on the official site mean!!!???

wire - stop fucking with our heads!

Pasquerel 01-06-2010 09:38

But on the other hand that "one last shot at mass communication" line makes me worry a bit.

handsome_devil 01-06-2010 09:38

It means SATT 2

Mark 01-06-2010 09:38

Mass communication is making radio-friendly songs like Autumnsong and YLAINE that will hopefully reach a lot of people.

sculptureofabloke 01-06-2010 09:38

It's weird thinking of them as a ten album band, can't see many modern day bands making it to ten. Bands generally seem to be less prolific now than they were, say 15 years ago, can't believe we're getting albums in consecutive years :).

All they mean is it's the last shot at being outwardly comercial, if this doesnt come off it'll be what they want to do not giving a shit rather than music for the masses

exactly!!!

tzb 01-06-2010 09:42

Did you read the other replies? Nicky explained exactly what that meant in today's interview.

everlasting 01-06-2010 09:42

I just think maybe they think this is their last chance to make a record that will appeal to a wider audience than say Journal did, before they get "too old". Who knows.
I hope they release some proper singles from this album though with some cool videos.

tucka 01-06-2010 09:43

strange they've removed the release date from the news article

everlasting 01-06-2010 09:44

Also, I hope the fact the Manics have a new album and tour can hopefully help No Manifesto get a near release date :)

aPatsy 01-06-2010 09:49

Anyone noticed the new band 'font' at the top or is this just me being very slow with realising new and not that exciting things?

Still, releasing an album little more than a year after the last one in todays terms is brilliant. Yeah they didn't exactly do a big tour for JFPL to be exhausted from, but fair play most other bands would just take a year off regardless. All hail the Manic work-rate :D

tzb 01-06-2010 09:52

I don't know, they took JFPL to America. That's huge by their standards!

They did a great job with it! I can't wait until September!

Manic Street Hippie 01-06-2010 09:58

When he said 'One last shot at mass communication' on 6Music, I thought he meant that this was the last time he'd be on radio until the album was released. Mind you, they have always said that they'd never 'split up', but carry on releasing albums and things every few years, under the radar as it were.

Ten albums though, that's quite a lot. This'll be their fourth since the greatest hits, or fifth if you counter in the fact that there was nothing off KYE on FD.

Also, I like the name for the album, sounds melancholic. It's almost as if they are having longer and longer album titles in order to make the acronyms longer to spell. SATT < JFPL < PFAYM*

*For this purpose, I'm ignoring TIMTTMY, as that just messes up my sentence.

Takk 01-06-2010 10:00

Lol, they've nicked our font.

tzb 01-06-2010 10:01

Knew it looked familiar :D

So Why So Sad?

JPizzle 01-06-2010 10:07

I'm excited. This will be my first time of real excitement right from announcement, album release and then hopefully seeing them on tour.

I can't wait.

Red 01-06-2010 10:11

This thing about "last mass communication" makes me weep tears of joy from my third eye. The crude one, I mean. It's just, the Manics have so many times been at their best when they've foregone their commercial conciousness, and just run with an idea. I think the band's increasing confidence in trying stuff that breaks the norm is working out really well - just listen to things like Dying Breeds or You Know It's Going To Hurt. It's total love or bleh stuff. No mass market is going to buy a Nicky-sung song or a James instrumental, but if we love it, then ain't that better than an album of Your Love Alone's?

Ah ok right, thanks. I didn't check the tracklist, and tried to run through it off the top of my head. I forgot about that one, was thinking that Found that Soul, Ocean Spray, and Let Robeson Sing weren't on it.

I'm happy to be proved wrong! :)

slightly delayed 01-06-2010 10:14

i'm hoping the last bit of the post card is not as sinister as it sounds (one last shot at mass communication) i'm thinking its something like this being the last album on sony,i'm sure it was mentioned ages ago about them getting their own label

xxx

I'm not sure I want a knitted Nicky Wire...

Dext37 Fielding 01-06-2010 10:24

Well atleast the album will be 'Mass Communication' not 'Mass turbation!'

Silver10 01-06-2010 10:39

Well the title is certainly better than the last one :P
I'm excited.

Lowri 01-06-2010 10:43

If they go with the background image on the site and the new typeface for the album cover then I will be pleased.
