Takk 13-09-2010 12:12

Cheers. :D.

everlasting 13-09-2010 12:13

Bit weird isn't it to do this? Is doing to make peopel hear it and then go buy it? I don't see the exact angle of allowing the album to go out in full a week early. I'll pass, but thanks for the link, I want to enjoy the album next week :)

lovesean4ever 13-09-2010 12:17

lovesean4ever 13-09-2010 12:40

It's got some scathing comments so far mind. On guardian webpage I mean.

Deets 13-09-2010 12:43

You must be kidding me

StandAndStare 13-09-2010 12:43

This is getting more and more difficult! How am I gonna manage not to listen to the album before in gets to my letter box:S

Abstract Unknown Girl 13-09-2010 12:45

I resisted downloading any leaks, I think I can abstain from an internet stream when the album is released in a week's time anyway :p

I've caved, this is too easy to listen to :D

Deets 13-09-2010 12:48

I am going to this on Monday if I don't get the album on time. oh well.
I suppose counting down to the album in my signature is pointless now. oh well 2.

Me too. I know i'll sound like a dinosaur but i preferred the days before the internet when you had one release date and went and bought it on that day and heard it for the first time.

They're just going by the single and clearly haven't heard the album in full yet. I wasn't that keen on the single but love the album in full.

Frozendiva 13-09-2010 12:51

It just seems to be 30 second samples.

La Bohéme 13-09-2010 13:00

"Golden Platitudes is possibly the dullest track they have ever recorded, even worse than Royal Correspondent."

Oh dear. These comments don't get better. :(

No I thought they were commenting on hearing the album tracks too - hence why they were on that webpage in the first place?

Despite not hearing the new album yet, there is something about that statement that just doesnt seem possible...

lovesean4ever 13-09-2010 13:46

Bit ironic how the official webpage takes you to the link only when you get there it's load of abusive comments about how crap it is !!

I'm getting a real personal KYE vibe from this album, which I'm not sure is good. KYE is my least favourite manics album because I find it so inconsistent, and I skip tracks. So going to have to give this a chance. I think the songs will still sound great live though.

Same for me, but that's cos I'm in Italy just now, it says "Sorry this album is not available for streaming in your country." So it's just samples. Shit

strangely I have heard KYE so many times I can't even count. and even now I SIMPLY CAN'T RECALL in my memory the music or lyrics to Royal Correspondent. plus another 4 or 5 songs from KYE as well. this means something.

Porco 13-09-2010 15:56

Listening for the first time now... wow, SKON sounds even better without the horrible radio compression... loving it.

Kieslowski 13-09-2010 15:58

I've only listened to the intros of each song, because I still want Monday to be the first time I hear the album in full. However, I wanted to get a taste for it, just to check that I'm right to be selling one of my tickets. I have now confirmed two things to myself:

1) If I listened to it in full just now, there's a good chance the CD will never be taken out of the casing, as I may never want to listen to this album a second time

2) I might want to consider selling both my tickets

I know they've made music harking back to EMG before (Indian Summer being made to the ADFL template being an obvious example), but this is taking the piss. Really, this sounds like a Manics pastiche, but by one of those bands that tries to copy their EMG sound and come out with something hideous, rather than the ones that try to copy their THB or GT sound, but at least produce something you can have a good laugh at.

Strings should be banned from all future Manics releases.

Of course, I might be wrong, and perhaps JDB has made the interesting decision to make the intros the worst part of the songs, rather than the best part.

franny 13-09-2010 16:01

Some of the intros are really good but they don't tend to signify the rest of the songs. Hold on to those tickets.

Thomas 13-09-2010 16:03

personally i think it breaks any rule in the book of good music. it's just awful. kieslowski pretty much said it all.

Scout Finch 13-09-2010 16:07

'"Everything Must Go" getting quite a hard time here. I think it was a good album, and "design for life" is a good song. I thought "There is nothing left to lose" was a better album, especially the tracks that weren't singles....my little empire, be natural etc...'

Haha, isn't that a Foo Fighters album?

Hazleton Avenue's melody is 'Song for Guy' by Elton John… arff
The dude ain't wrong - and to think I rather liked Hazelton Avenue for its melody. That's another for the Wiki guy to add to the credits.

Why don't they just cut to the chase and become a covers band? Elton is much better at writing songs for those awesome melodies than JDB is.

appleof88 13-09-2010 16:37

I have to wait, my LP may come saturday, i have to wait

Radiomanic 13-09-2010 16:41

Good stuff, i finally get to listen to it properly. I really thought the previews were terrible so here goes...two tracks in and it's not offensive. I actually quite like Postcards for a Young Man, and of course the single. Still think Some Kind of Nothingness is a shite AutumnSong clone though.

Karmacy 13-09-2010 17:42

I'm starting to get really tired of all these opinions, finding it hard to look forward to the album at this point... :( Wish everyone just heard it at the same point in time again!

Difference between this and KYE is that this time they tried too hard to please the listening public whereas on KYE didn't give a shit...and came out with some brilliant songs.
