Divine Youth

Utterly beautiful song. The demo is equally heartbreaking too.

The Quatercircle 04-07-2014 20:32

What is the song about in your opinion?

I see it as a song about the frailty of being young and the future that is being moulded for the youth of today. I see it as Nicky writing about how simple things were being young without the distraction of digitalisation and distractions. It's a lament of youth.

The Quatercircle 04-07-2014 20:38

Nice interpretation.

Takk 05-07-2014 13:03

Very ooberman.

ooberfan 05-07-2014 13:57

I've only heard the snippets of this (and all the tracks really aside from the few played live and already released) ... it sounds incredible. Probably the track I am now most looking forward to hearing in full (full sound, production etc).... that said ... can't wait to get my hands on the whole album!

Geranium Terrorists 05-07-2014 14:22

I hate her vocals, sorry. I feel like I'm being murdered by sugar n schmaltz every time I hear it.

FacelessSenseOfVoid 05-07-2014 17:39

Only the fucking Manics could pick the only singer harder to understand than James Dean Bradfield to sing alongside him.

Is she hard to understand? I can make out every word.

I still struggle with JDB quite a lot, especially on TIMTTMY.

She sings in a strange way with a very strong Welsh accent - someone I know even thought she was singing in Welsh! James is a lot easier to understand on that song than her, for me at least.

gcho50 06-07-2014 05:53

The beginning sounds like an AIR tune. I wish they hadn't split the vocals, just one or the other would've made it better. James' voice dominants the female vocal.

Takk 06-07-2014 06:16

It doesn't really sound like welsh to me, just quiet.

Europa Gluten Free 06-07-2014 07:15

The demo is much nicer.

LadyWoodbee 06-07-2014 23:33

I can't get over how beautiful that moment is when James' voice sets in. And the lyrics of the chorus give me goosebumps each time.

Initially I didn't like Georgia Ruth's voice at all (I rarely like female vocals, to be honest), but after having listened to it about a thousand times I have to say I'm finding it increasingly charming. There are those moments when she does that "squeaky" thing with her voice, like the Cranberries' singer used to do, only less extreme... Like her voice is cracking. I don't quite know how to describe it, but anyway, it's beautiful.

Matt_o_Mac 07-07-2014 01:06

I actually like this, I heard about 30 seconds and reverted to the start of the album but I let it run second time around and it's beautiful, ironically some of these would have worked better on Rewind the Future.

amaitheanhorn 07-07-2014 14:26

I really hate the guest vocals on this song, but the demo is absolutely gorgeous. It just feels so genuine and raw :)

As much as I love Nicky on the demo, I love the album version too.

BloodFlowerBill 07-07-2014 15:47

I am a fan of Georgia's voice but this one did take a while to warm too, it does sound a little disconnected at times but the vocals/words are lovely.

AK47 07-07-2014 15:57

I love it. I think it's a great album track.

foundthatsoul 07-07-2014 21:13

I don't like it it at all- and it's not even her voice it's just snoozeville. The only decent part is the last 35 seconds.

HunkyDory 07-07-2014 21:32

It's the only song I don't like on Futurology. At first I thought the female singer had a Chinese accent.

Actually, I kind of dislike the beginning, to be honest (the "churchbells" and especially the harp). AND they're doing the "aaaaaaaaahaaaa"-thing AGAIN! You know, that long-drawn-out angelic church choir thing... I don't know how to call or describe it, but maybe you know what I mean. It's just getting a little out of hand for my taste. It's what annoyed me most about TIMTTMY, too. The rest of the song makes up for it though.

Haha, I thought she might be Scandinavian! Reminded me of "lovely" Lena Meyer-Landrut, too (who I can't stand at all!).

Bobafettish 08-07-2014 12:42

Really love the vocals on this.

hummingbird 09-07-2014 17:59

love this. One of my favourite tracks

Borderliner 09-07-2014 18:01

I love this track. Futurology is awesome. I think it's my favourite album now (after TIMTTMY of course :D)

LadyWoodbee 10-07-2014 19:29

Although this one was love at first sight (or rather, love at first listen), it still amazes me more and more each time. I think it would be a really really touching moment if they played it live, too. Do you think they will? I don't really see it, as I believe the song wouldn't work for James's voice in its entirety, and surely they're not gonna bring along Georgia Ruth Williams to all the dates?

EnolaEdmonds 10-07-2014 21:12

Divine Youth is worse than 4 Lonely Roads

Suicide Aldi 10-07-2014 22:08

I really love this teack! Im not against guest vocalists, and its used to great affect here. Excellent.

Smiling#Girl 10-07-2014 22:41

I was ready to dislike this song due to the guest vocal but it's just too beautiful and I love it.

tomd2103 11-07-2014 10:01

I too don't really see what the guest vocalist brings to this track, especially as James' voice really suits it.

FacelessSenseOfVoid 11-07-2014 10:38

4 Lonely Toads was better than this... (actually it wasn't but I just like the new take on the name :P)

Another one to request on the next tour, along with Mertesacker Emptiness and SPLAM!!!!

His voice really suits the chorus, yes, but I think he'd have trouble with the verses, to be honest. Suppose there's a reason why Nicky is singing it in the demo. Not that he works out great, mind. ;-)

bleeding pepper 11-07-2014 19:02

Stunning song. Probably would have fitted into "Rewind The Film" better - could've been swapped for "Show Me The Wonder" instead.

dora 13-07-2014 00:21

Love it! <3

Son of Stopped 13-07-2014 00:41

The keyboards remind me massively of the synth work of Sylvester McCoy's Doctor Who. And actually I think that is the highest compliment I could ever give! My easily the favourite song on the album.
I also get what people are saying about how it isn't as consistent a mirror reflection of RTF as some wanted.
But this setback was very quick to get over.
Maybe that will be the Rick Rubin album they joked about ?
I think that could be a backwards progression from the new record.
I still haven't heard the demo version though.

still_unfashionable 13-07-2014 15:26

Such a beautiful song. The demo with Nicky singing is absolutely heartbreaking.

Borderliner 21-07-2014 20:26

This song makes me think that I'm sitting on the pier and waiting for tsunami

... Is that a good or a bad thing?!? Are we talking "a tsunami" or "Tsunami" here? ;)

everlasting 22-07-2014 07:04

I love this song more and more, could have fit on RTW I guess. I need to check out the demo, I will do that tonight, I forget I have the 2nd CD.

Abstract Unknown Girl 22-07-2014 07:10

I'm afraid this is the 4 Lonely Roads of the album for me; it's the only one I'm skipping so far. It just jars with me compared to the rest of Futurology and seems more like a RTF outtake.
