Possible Manics gig in Clwb Ifor Bach (Cardiff) ??

A poster with “forever delayed 31/03/22” has popped up outside Clwb. Despite being on this forum for years and years I can’t figure out how to post the picture!
They are around for the bbc music festival for that conversation in the tramshed.
Would be huge if true!

Lifted from the other thread. Check Clwb's twitter and website, nothing for that date so it's all very odd.

Chriss 16-03-2022 13:40

Didn’t see it discussed in another thread. Apologies for creating a new one.
I may or may not be able to say this but I was sent a photo of the posters by someone who knows I love the manics and who may or may not work at Clwb and told me to be quiet about it. So who knows what’s up!

Are @Manics to play a secret show at @ClwbIforBach during the @BBC6Music Festival?

MSPKYE 16-03-2022 17:11

Well if it's not the Manics I'm suing for stealing our logo :p

I'd previously rubbished the idea that this was anything to do with MSP, however this article now makes me wonder.

The font and general design isn't very 'them' though is it?

Without the 6Music cancellation thing, my guess would be that some indie band is releasing an MP3 that day, and that's the name of the song.

UEF 16-03-2022 17:53

It's just gone legit! https://www.bbc.co.uk/backstage/6mus...ival/thursday/

Beat me to it!

Routine Builder 16-03-2022 18:16

Well feck all chances of getting tickets for this so hope you Welsh folk enjoy it.

Edit: it's an hour set so we all know what that means....

Oscar Wilde said that there are only two tragedies in life; not getting tickets to a one off MSP show, and getting tickets (and seeing the setlist).

Oh, that doesn't even mean actual fans will get in.

I am still bitter over the Blackwood Miner's Institute gig over a decade ago. And I live 10 minutes from Blackwood.

Don’t be bitter, the atmosphere was dreadful

Same, I was playing skittles in Llanbradach that night and still wish I'd attempted to chance my arm or at least beg the door staff for mercy

Routine Builder 16-03-2022 20:09

Considering it's BBC6, cough something we all equally pay for with our license fee (presumably), the ticket allocation for the rest of the country is a bit stingy. It's not as if Wales is hurting for Manics gigs, it's not even hurting for FREE Manics gigs lately either.

Thought the same when the photos emerged yesterday. Can only guess Clwb Ifor have knocked those up quickly themselves.

Would be good if this connects into the KYE reissue. Feels a bit reminiscent of the Coal Exchange gig.

Tim 16-03-2022 20:45

Nice. Worth a punt i guess but i wouldn't have minded the tramshed given the larger capacity.
I've never been under the distinct impression that the manics play a massive amount of gigs in wales anyway though it does seem they are doing more of these more intimate things in the last few years.

Europa Gluten Free 16-03-2022 21:08

In all seriousness, they will do an obscure KYE song I'd say. Well, obscure as in Year of Purification. James also said they were attempting some new covers in rehearsals.

Chriss 17-03-2022 00:41

This is pretty bonkers. Clwb is proper small for them. I’ve applied for tickets but not holding out much hope!

Royal Correspondant or day I say it... the third performance of Intravenous Agnostic?

The Coal Exchange was a brilliant gig wasn’t it. One of the live bootlegs I listen to the most. Chaos and a brilliant set.

deadmartyr 17-03-2022 20:28

Extremely unlikely I'd get lucky on a ticket ballot like this as per usual, but it just has to be on the same day that I've already chosen to see Joan As Police Woman instead of NewDad. I don't go to a lot of gigs every year, and then three I'd like to go to all happen on the same day!

Glyn 17-03-2022 21:52

Saw on the BBC news story that there are only 75 pairs available to the public through the ballot. At least it will be on BBC 6 Music (hopefully in full).

hummingbird 18-03-2022 20:47

Not going to bother. Hopefully someone films it

Most, if not all of it will be on (probably) BBC Four/red player or (more likely) 6Music.
Still, have fun whoever can make it.

sim 23-03-2022 11:58

If a couple of people got tickets and needed a plus one each, me and a friend would be really grateful. We'll buy you lunch and a milkshake.

Routine Builder 23-03-2022 12:42

Oh no, didn't get one of the 5 pairs I was eligible for. No surprises.

Chriss 23-03-2022 14:04

No tickets for me :( aw well, it’ll be a good one for those that go!

UEF 23-03-2022 15:03

Did anyone actually get one?

The Blackwood gig 11 years ago was horrifically "hangers-on", I think this might be the same

Routine Builder 23-03-2022 15:47

Only half the capacity went to the raffle so I imagine this is 50% guestlist, sigh.....

Nothing says Rock n Roll like a jolly for industry chums.

Taxpayer funded jolly for the chums....

I look forward to footage of a camera panning across half-empty seats

What is your source for this?

I didn't get one either.

Routine Builder 24-03-2022 07:29

75 pairs of tickets raffled for a 300 capacity venue.

Think you might want to try that link again

This’ll be like the Postcards “working man’s club” gig where every man (and woman) in attendance was working at Sony

The only gig where nobody shouts for Sleepflower?
