29/03/2022 - Birmingham Resorts World Arena (Concert For Ukraine)

Guess the setlist? Probably Tolerate and Design. Would love Dead Martyrs as much as you, but they'll be thinking of the "Not We's".
Orwellian squeezed in? Good on 'em for doing it. |

“So if I can shoot rabbits then I can shoot fascists” (seems a bit inappropriate IMHO). |

Bad time to take It's not war out of retirement....

Well Hughesovka is a song inspired by a Welsh mining town in Ukraine, now called Donetsk, now a quote unquote independent Russian republic...

Tolerate will get an outing tonight it seems - Can we hope for 1/2 more? Maybe design and motorcycle?
Given that there is 120 minutes for 8 acts, and the Manics seem to be first on the bill, my guess is Tolerate (live vocals only) and that will be our lot to be honest. I hope to be proved wrong though!
First up? :(

Would have expected them to get at least 10 minutes |
Snow Patrol first up
Snow Patrol up first... although they sound like they're performing fully live.
Going to impact the number of songs then. Guessing two songs per act coming in at around an hour and an hour’s chat in between stage set up etc.
Fuck me what a dreary band and a shite song.
I'd forgotten how Snow Patrol songs don't really go anywhere.... looks like they're only getting one
I'm still hoping the Manics are going to perform a one off version or Revol changing the lyrics to be about Putin... not expecting to get it though.
:D
I’m half expecting a cover… dunno… the obvious three songs seem almost too obvious to play. |
The soundcheck as posted on the fdforum twitter has already given the game away and it was always the obvious choice.
8.40 for manics apparently
Looks like they'll be on after the break...
The Starcaster bass is a beauty.
Why no live performance?
Shame they were singing over a backing track (I say that as the current live version - especially the outro has been honed to perfection) but that was a particular touching performance.
I kept one eye on Twitter throughout the performance, half expecting it to be full of people accusing them of being dinosaurs, etc. The general consensus was that they'd done brilliant with the most apt song possible. |
Yeah the backing track was a bit frustrating but maybe the live version would’ve been a bit much in its guise these days, especially the outro.
Agree it was a lovely performance though. |
Ed Sheeran’s performance is why they didn’t play live. Sean messed with his guitar.
Straight in the iTunes chart at 36. Picked up a few sales
My view is if it was on the BBC we'd have the full live sound. But ITV (and more importantly the advertisers using ITV) probably dictated more of what we heard.
Another reason to support the licence fee! Do hope the song re-enters the charts as well. |
Always cool to see them on the telly box. I didn't tho...gave up after snow patrol :) Watched the YouTube clip instead.
Didn't need a sound check for Live Aid, is all I'm saying
(they did have a rotating stage though) |

Agreed that the BBC would probably have delivered a better more authentic experience as music goes, but it’s not the focus of this event
Well it was just a comment.
