B-side samples on Amazon
Haven't seen this posted which most likely means it's posted already, but Amazon's got samples of the standard SKON single b-sides. Red Rubber and Evidence Against Myself we already know but those who haven't heard them can give 'em a quick gander, and Broken Up Again is all-new. Rather rocky.

I fucking hate "Red Rubber". But I'd have liked "Evidence Against Myself" to be on the album, as it's a pretty cool little number. "Distractions" too, my favourite of the PFAYM b-sides so far.
Which once again leads me to ask; what were they thinking by including the fucking atrocious "The Future Has Been Here 4 Ever" on the album when that was originally supposed to be a b-side?

Personally I love 'Future' and your comment about the trumpet part seems bizarre to me, as it's one of the few Manics tracks with a trumpet part that isn't just a guitar solo played on a different instrument. It's a beautiful part of the song, and really makes it. Plus, Nick's vocal isn't really that bad, and it's much better than the one on 'Wattsville Blues'. If 'Future' had been a b-side, I'd now be asking why on Earth the band hadn't found room for it. Incidentally, I think I'd swap 'Broken Up Again' for 'The Descent', 'Distractions' for 'Hazelton Avenue' and 'Red Rubber' for 'I Think I Found It'. 'Evidence Against Myself' might squeeze on there when I listen to it more. |

But... but... Red Rubber is amazing. As is Future Has Been Here 4 Ever.
You're being a silly sausage ![]() Evidence is cool but I don't think it would've worked on the album stylistically.

I think 'I Know The Numbers' should have been on the album. It's bloody brilliant.....it probably wouldn't have worked though unfortunately ![]()

I Know The Numbers is amazing <3 I'd have loved them to include it. But yeah, it probably wouldn't fit with the other songs.

I know you don't want me to go on one of my long-winded rants that requires starting a whole new thread, so I'll try and make this brief: Nicky's singing is poor (even by his standards), the instrumentation does not suit the song at all (the trumpet is sooo out of place), the song is dull and never goes anywhere and the overall effect created by these factors is an unlistenable song. It suffers from all the things that make "Wattsville Blues" a dirge.

Broken Up Again sounds alright (like one of the better tracks from the album I guess)
Red Rubber sounds bizarre, not bad I suppose but bizarre, also the guitar reminds me of the Cadbury's Flake jingle, 'Only the Crumbliest, flakiest chocolate...' Evidence Against Myself made me face palm, but hey, it's only 30 seconds so who knows how good (or awful) the song may sound like in full.

Won't bother listening to to Broken Up Again but Red Rubber and Evidence Against Myself are excellent, can't wait to blast Red Rubber out in particular.

Is it the electric drum sound on these b-sides that's make them sound samey?
And if Nicky sings "Red Rubber"... I didn't notice! ![]() |

From the sounds of it, Broken Up Again is better than most songs on the album.
So are the songs not going to be available digitally this time? Last edited by nocultureicons; 02-12-2010 at 09:55. |
