Deep Cuts Vol 1 - The Album!
I think most people who were going to vote will have done so by now, so here are the results for Deep Cuts Vol 1 in voting order (by LP).
Condemned To Rock'n'Roll Born To End Methadone Pretty Sleepflower Yourself Gold Against The Soul Yes Archives Of Pain This Is Yesterday No Surface All Feeling Small Black Fowers... Enola / Alone Ready For Drowning My Little Empire Nobody Loved You Would make a pretty damn fine album in my opinion. Imagine if it was all new material (which it could be to a casual fan)!

Aye, that's nice. You might want to change the album title due to the Richey connotations though.

I think sense prevailled regarding Gold Against the Soul.
All round it's pretty much what I'd pick. There are some definite standout non-singles from the first 5 albums. Maybe be interesting to see the results of KYE onwards which would be more mixed I reckon. |

Still surprised at Interiors scoring so low, and Yourself scoring so high.
Overall, a very good album though. |

I'm satisfied with this result. Just so glad I wasn't alone in choosing "Born To End" which is still my favourite track off GT

How about the tracklisting - chronologically or thematic or which songs go nicely together?

Personally, I like this kind of compilation to be in chronological order. That way you can hear the evolution of the band's sound. It's not like when we re-order albums to include b-sides from the same era...cos that's more a matter of what sounds good together. A "best of" covering several years always works better, IMO, when you can hear the changes to the sound of the band as they happened

What I think you're going to find is that there's much less change in sound & 'attitude' between KYE & PFAYM than GT & TIMTTMY. I think you could mix most of the last 5 LP's tracks & nothing would stand out as 'odd', whereas to my mind the non-singles from GT sound out of place with later Manics.
I specifically say non-singles, as Motorcycle Emptiness, Little Baby Nothing would not seem out of place on a number of later LPs. You can often spot a Manics's 'casual' at a gig by their blank expression when confronted with Motown Junk or You Love Us. Must sound like a different band to them.

Why have all the poll threads got asterisks in the title?
Quite a good list, I think. I might make an iTunes playlist of it

i was wondering the same thing. at first glance i thought it was all a censored version of "Deep Cunts" and was wondering why that would be in the Manics section. if one is going to call them that, they would probably call them Shallow ones instead of Deep.

Is because people said you couldn't really call a Manics compilation Deep Cuts, what with erm... a certain person's penchant for cuts? to be honest, it kept reminding me of the barracks where those soldiers killed themselves....

Quote:
I shall pass that comment onto Queen's management so that they can register the domain name before some Italian bootlegger produces their own version - Deep C**nts (extra asterix intentional).

I disagree with the result as it was based on the first past the post voting system. By using the alternative voting system I'm sure that Another Invented Disease would be on the album.
