Bands the Manics sound like
As we all know, the Manics have gone through many different changes in style, even on a single album (I'm looking at you, KYE).
They've been described as sounding like The Clash, Depeche Mode, Queen and even Take That at times. So, for the purpose of this thread, it would be good to identify a single song (or album) where the Manics sound like another band. If you can come up with some interesting suggestions then go for it! I'll get things rolling: The Love Of Richard Nixon - Depeche Mode Some Kind of Nothingness - Take That Postcards From A Young Man - Queen You're Tender And You're Tired - Badfinger Further Away - Oasis (not the vocals, mainly the music) The Year of Purification - REM And now (David), it's over to you....

Yeah, it sounds like their more recent stuff. To my ears anyway.... I've heard it being banded around as well on here so I didn't think it was *that* surprising.

I know Sue will probably have something to say about it but I still say Albatross by Fleetwood Mac for this one!

The band said this themselves didn't they? I never saw the connection myself.

Oddly I find the Manics can sort of re-skin themselves to sound like other bands really well (not a criticism even, this is one of my favourite things about them), but there aren't any bands that to me sound like the Manics. |

The track SATT has a bit of a British Sea Power vibe to my ears.

In the sense both are guilty of daft levels of overblown production to produce "pop anthems", yeah I can hear Take That. But in terms of the actual melodies, singing, lyrics... notsomuch.
