Welsh Manics

Inspired by James' amazing performance at the Welsh Open Voices the past weekend, I have made a Wales inspired Manics Apple playlist. Really it's any Manics song in which the lyric mentions a place in Wales or Wales itself or something to do with Wales.

FINAL EDIT:
After the replies here is the running order using Manics' sequencing logic.

My own logic when making any Apple playlist for any band is simple:
- It has to be 12 songs
- They have to be sequenced so there are some dynamics in the "album".
- And you can't have two songs from the same album or era one after the other.

I have left some obvious Manics Wales songs out and some of the suggestions below but that just my subjective decision and probably wrong! Please feel free to make your own playlists and share them!

...Always Caught in Between

LP 1
SIDE A
This Sullen Welsh Heart (Demo)
Emigre
Ready for Drowning

SIDE B
The View from Stow Hill (Demo)
Dylan & Caitlin
Which Way to Kyffin

LP 2
SIDE A
Prologue to History
The Secret He Had Missed
1404

SIDE B
Wattsville Blues
Manorbier
Cardiff Afterlife

(Great playlist if I do say so myself. Wish The Girl from Tiger Bay could have been on there but it ain't on Apple Music).

You could add The Sound of Detachment.

‘I feel as old as the Welsh hills that I love’

Sensible. Cringe inducing.

That would have been one of my suggestions, personally love it. More loosely connected but:

William's Last Words includes "nos da", which is Welsh for good night.
I Killed the Zeitgeist includes "Ich bin ein Newporter".
My Drowning World mention's St. David's Day.

Nice idea.

Unless we’re being super-strict I’d add The Girl From Tiger Bay (JDB demo that appeared on the band’s website).

Yes! But not on Apple Music (not even Shirley Bassey’s version).

BTW where did the James version of the song come from? Was it a demo or a radio performance? Remember it used to be on YouTube.

Found this post:

“AUG 19, 2010

ORIGINAL GIRL FROM TIGER BAY DEMO ADDED TO AUDIO PLAYER
The Manics’ original demo of The Girl From Tiger Bay, the track written last year by the band for Shirley Bassey has been added to front page.”

https://www.manicstreetpreachers.com...-audio-player/

So there you go, they even describe it as a Manics track.

While I’m making a post about it might as well link these (to keep UEF happy ) (edit: you beat me to it!)

Would Tolerate count as it's about the Welch fighting in the Spanish civil war?

Victory and Defeat on the Kendon Hill (an amazing JDB B-side)

A song about James trying to get fit by running up and down a hill in Wales and being overtaken by Joe Calzaghe with weights on his back, or something

Great idea for a thread, by the way. Those songs represent the Welshness I know, as opposed to the more popular "Tom Jones and Leeks" image you get in in the media.

What a great dirty little track! Love a bit of fuzzy James and shouting lyrics!

Well I bought The Great Western but I don't think I bothered with the singles. Too late in the evening now. But that's breakfast music sorted tomorrow
