The vanishing of Richey Manic documentary

I've never seen this before but just found it now on some foreign You Tube, here's the link to the first part if anyone would like to see it: http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ace47MxVQVM
I wonder why Boy George is on it?

Maybe he is richey.

edit: the beginning is a bit creepy. Does it carry on like this?
edit2: this is beginning to annoy me now. He's missing - he's not a bloody poltergeist.

Was this on channel four by any chance?

Haha, it may have been on channel 4, but I'm not sure. It's fairly old, about 1996 I think it was aired. I've just finished watching all three parts right now, it's not a bad documentary but it's not brilliant either.

The second one won't work so I stopped watching it. It just seemed really channel four to me in the way it was set up (and the annoying "spooky" music in the background of bits of annoying blurry footage.)

Odd, part two worked for me fine. The spooky music was a bit daft I thought but I guess it adds to the mood. Shame they couldn't have more of Richey talking. Oh well.

Thanks for posting this link.
I have been wanting to see this but i couldn't find it.
It really does take the whole disappearing the wrong way though, and makes Richey seem like he wasn't actually human.

That made me laugh. I totally believe that Richard Edwards transformed into Boy George...Itīs a logical conclusion....

That was the rumour the was going around in 98/99, not that I was ever able to find any proof. One for a 'Made Up Manics Rumours' thread, probably.

We used to rip the piss out of it, it's so bad, all the overly dramatic emphasis on sentences like "There is NO phone box at Pontypool station...."

Same here! Me & a few friends could start at least 10 minutes of banter whenever any of us quoted a part of it!!

That phone box quote is priceless
So many cringe worthy moments!

Sean Ryder & his fast cars..
The blurry overhead camera shots..
Becky & "It made me the person I am todaaay!"..
Iain Goddards intensly intense rocking back and forth while hugging his knees in a strange greenhouse... I could go on!

Haha! All this cheesy goodness (actually, 'cheese' is too good a word for such an abomination) almost, but not quite, makes the 30 minutes of your life you'll never get back seem ok. It's a smarmy piece of crap really, but there are laughs to be had the least of which is a crack head, prostitute imprisoning, mental fuck-up like Boy George attempting to psycho-analyze Edwards - a man he probably didn't even know existed before some desperate TV producer needed to fill some screen time with a familiar face. Highly amusing in a "WTF!" kind of way.

I personally believe Boy George is the only person brave enough to talk about the real Richey.

Unfortunately he thought the producer meant Richard D James, he didn't know Aphex Twin had gone missing
