To be honest I dont think theres enough evidence to make a judgement on the 1985-1989..... all we have is a few demos

As much as I love the Holy Bible, they did hide James voice under all the noise on that record a little bit – so Everything Must Go was great to hear just how good James voice could be. Saying that I think his voice sounds awesome on JFPL too but I’m going to go for Everything Must Go Era Manics! 

Lifeblood, IMO. But I think he was pretty good from when they started recording professionally.

So hard to say! Like Richian, Lifeblood really really showed James' beautiful voice off so well, as does SATT, but since JFPL used no computer "fixing" at all, and listen to how good it sounds without any of that, just full analog, I'd say JFPL for sure...

His voice does seem to get better every time I see them (I've seen him around 13 times now MSP & solo) I think. So live = 2005 - 2009 I guess. But then there are select "great" vocals from all the eras in the studio...

Yea JFPL because you can also take into account his live performances where he sings and puts the aggression into the older songs as well.

My vote's also for his more recent work (I chose 2005-2009, but really, to me it's 2000+). I've been listening to Generation Terrorists a lot the past few weeks, and I just can't help but think how YOUNG he sounds on that album. Not that that's a bad thing, but for me, finishing high school/just starting college around that time period, listening to that album in general is like a time capsule for me, everything about that album reminds me of the early 90's so much!

His voice definitely improves with age and his range is really big now, compare peeled apples to facing page:top left and they're quite different singing styles.

Lifeblood and Journal for me. Lifeblood in particular the vocals are beautiful. The Jools Holland performance of Empty Souls is one of my favourites still because he sounds perfect.
