Do you consider "The Holy Bible" a piece of religious art?

I mean, aside from the album title's obvious symbolism, there were no religious symbolisms that will link my experience into something that will justify it as a legitimate experience that people can agree upon. But, there is no such thing as an obvious pattern for a sacred experience; it has turned “unrecognizable” because the profane things that we usually don’t connect to the typical religious experiences. Also, although the way the Manics play their songs deviate from the typical verse-chorus-verse musical form or lyrics that is typical on most religious hymns, there is still much power and transformative experience that can be found in this musical form that they have created. Also, by the art they have created, no matter how different and unusual, it could invoke that same epic feeling that the traditional arts have invoked in the past.

Sorry if it sounds too pretentious heh. Just my two cents. Would love to hear other people's arguments.

I don't because to me, religious art is devotional, where THB is the exact opposite. I think the title is intended somewhat ironically, because it takes on a lot of subjects that are considered taboo/unholy in our culture. I feel like this is a kind of lamely short post in response to a well-thought-through OP, sorry

I agree with u

I think the holy bible is about how the world really is. It shows the dark places that us, as human beings have gone since the dawn of times. It basically says that the bible itself is a lie. That the world doesn't work like it says there. Many people say that is the holy book of lies and it may be true.

Now it is true that is a very strong album eventhough it wasn't made following the typical song patterns. The lyrics stand by themselves. They are pure rage and in some cases sadness, dissapoinment, etc. They show how terrible can be belong to the human race and that in itself is a very powerful and brave statement.



I have always had the feeling that in this album they are really preaching but not in a exactly in a religious way, if you know what I mean
