Was James ever on the dole?

I've always wondered this. From what I've gathered he didn't do well on his GCSE's and whilst Nicky and Richey were at Uni (Nicky doing a politics degree, for those who didn't know...) he was out busking. I was just wondering if he signed on at any point in his life after school.

Also, does anyone know what he did when he left high school?

I thought they were all on the dole except for Sean, whose job kept the band going in the early early early days

He did. I believe that was the only formal job he ever held.

No he was on the mole... he squashed it - but we all have our dark teenage moments.

I remember reading (Simon Price?) that he was on the dole and worked behind a bar cash in hand. Benefit cheat!

Point of pedantry, he didn't go to high school, he went to a comprehensive school. Secondary schools in England and Wales weren't called high schools when the Manics were at school.

I knew he worked behind a bar for a bit.. Wonder if he'd be running his own pub by now if he'd carried on. He seems quite jovial these days and he's always glad to spare a few minutes for the fans after gigs so I'm sure he'd be the same with the punters. Plus, if a few people got a bit rowdy he could turn into Holy Bible era James and make them shit themselves and fuck off.

Haha exactly. If you've got that face telling you you've had enough, you know you've had enough.

LOL!

I think it's cool idea if James will own a bar. he looks like someone that can hundle with it.
