What did you think when you first heard THB?

When my friend played it - 'This is nice' 'Did they just sing 'Shalom Shalom?'...

When I got it - 'Damn, that thing needs to be remixed and I hate that stupid Welsh accent, I can't hear a thing' (UK version)

I bought it on the way to my uncle's. When I got there I thought his stereo was broken. Seriously.
(Goes without saying that I have since come to love it!)

Who's he? Who's she? Who are they?

And, "this is.. different". There isn't another album like it.

Good questions, you're a smart one! I think I questioned the entire She Is Suffering lyric - 'Riiight...'

First time I heard the music, I thought the whole thing was a neat, tight little rocker with some good melody. Then when I got into it properly, I was shocked. Remains my favourite album ever.

I mentioned every name in the lyrics to my dad when I was 14, and it was like "Serial killer, serial killer, dictator..." He thought I was morbid.

I listened to it a couple of times and thought all the songs sounded the same. Put it down for a few months and came back to it. This time it was amazing.

Funny this is almost my experience as well. I really got into the Manics at the beginning with GT, then GATS, so when THB came out I ran out and bought it. Immediately listened to it and I was let down, I thought "what is this garbage?". I must have put it away for like 6 months, then I gave it another chance and holy crap I was blown away. I don't know why but I just wasn't "ready" to hear that album the first time around. Now it's one of my favorite albums of all time. Strange how that works.

Same here. I found it quite boring at first. At that time I liked more EMG and TIMTTMY. Then later I listened to it again and loved it.

You bought it when you were a month old? How precocious!

Do you think the experience has scarred you for life? Do you get the urge to packasmanywordsintoyoursentenceswhenspeaking? Have you ever considered wearing a balaclava with your name on the forehead?
