So what do we hope/want from the War/Love video?

Something EMG-era ish please. Design vid, Everything Must Go vid... something like that. Something a bit grander that has a great visual design, would work wonders with both the song's style and the "HERE WE ARE HITTING YOU WITH A HIT SINGLE" attitude.

Or anything else than "here we are on a stage look here's a wide shot of us tra la la we're playing" boredom.

The 3 of them playing in a bandstand in a park on a sunny day while various couples argue and 'love' around them. Something fast paced anyway

Nothing at all like any of SATT's videos, please. Everything else I have to say on this topic should probably go in Appreciation.

I just want a NORMAL video.
Not Patrick Jones stuff, not something blurry like JCEQT, not something silly like Autumnsong. Everything else will be fine for me.
Actually all they have to do is to hire a good director.

Something Tsunami-ish, intercut with Japanese animation. Because the song is the natural accompaniment to a badly translated anime.

We need band shots, but with a twist, like in their best vids (ME, Tristesse, FDTW, Faster/Revol, ADFL, EMG). It depends on a well-chosen location, a competent director, and...humour. The latter can save any video and Manics videos hardly had any humourous content before (the animated bunnies in YSTSFMH are the only exceptions). We need some good vids this time, lads.

That's what I'm thinking - only take it a step further and put the Manics in an old castle, playing up on the roof, like the Beatles rooftop concert - only there is a massive siege on the castle with arrows and cannonballs flying, and swords clashing, bombs exploding. Sean would have some kind of drum cannon to retaliate with at one point.

Whilst on the DLR into central today listening to the song a few times the video came together in my mind. Now let me take you on this tale.

Set in a god awful early morning news show, like the set of one of those on Fox News or a local welsh news channe;. James is the lead anchor, with a female co anchor, perhaps Moira Stewart, Nicky on the Sport desk and Sean doing the weather. The video starts with James and Moira behind the desk saying good morning at the same time, the music kicks in.

The show's intro starts with the music with each member of the Manic News team looking into the distance and then pulling some smug pose to the camera (such as in the end credits for Predator http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFs72HijLq8) with their name appearing below. Anyway the video goes James is reading the news but of course this is actually miming the lyrics with odd stories appearing behind him and when it cuts to the news item it cuts back to James looking whistfully at Moira as he carrys miming the lyrics, for you see he is in love with her. The story ends and the show cuts back to James who pulls a demented grin at the camera. The video carrys on like this for a while with Nicky doing the sport and Sean doing the weather (the weather of wales of course with just rain symbols all over it), but we can still see James miming and adoring Moira. When the solo kicks in it is James daydreaming and he gets on the desk with his gibson, with Sean on the drums to his right and Nicky on la bass on his left. Anyway you get the general gyst and this has gone on too long.

It ends with the team sitting on the desk in a early news kind of way, music ends and they just say have a lovely day or something. I think it suits the song well and will get attention, plus the chance to see the guys in proper suits!
