autumn song
so, autumn song seems to be an in-joke on here and i was wondering why?
Is it a simple (group 1) love the song v (group 2) hate the song? The lyrics are pish but thats part of what makes them great (a-la life by des'ree "I don't want to see a ghost, It's a sight that I fear most, I'd rather have a piece of toast") The tune is poppy and infectious and sticks in your head for days so...autumn song - whats the deal?

So as not to repeat my previous 1,000 posts, it's not even an autumnal song, is it? It's more like a summer song with ill-fitting shit lyrics and released as a single in the summer but played at gigs no matter what time of year it is.
I'm leaving it there before this Friday night post becomes a Saturday morning one.

It is unbelievably and I mean unbelievably shite. Beyond shite. Fuck I hate it. I hate the riff. It's bollocks. Absolutely bollocks. Not only for the echoes of Sweet Child but even for the simple structure of it (speaking from a guitarist's POV). There is nothing redeeming about it. I hate the guitar tone. It's too creamy and Gibsony. Turn the tone up or fucking using the neck pickup. I hate the lyrics. They are unbelievably shite. How the fuck could Wire hand them to Jimbo. Seriously. How the fuck? I beyond hate the "done to your hair, done to your hair" into the chorus. Fucking painful. I hate the strings. Lazy. I hate when it comes on when I'm listening to the album and always surprises me as I've tried to block it from my mind. Fuck I hate that. I hate it cos it kept Welcome to the Dead Zone, Morning Comrades, Fearless Punk Ballad even fucking Little Girl Lost (which is only marginally less shite) off the album. I CANNOT BELIEVE that they chose it as a single! Holy shit fuck. I hate that they mimed it on that World Peace or Environment shite on BBC 1 when Nicky wasn't even there cos even he knows how fucking shite it is. The only thing I like about it is the F#/G chord in the chorus.

  Alternative artwork for Autumnsong. I don't actually hate it like some, but it's certainly not a favourite... I far prefer the instrumental version. And the single release brought us the excellent The Vorticists which I'd happily put up with Autumnsong for any day.
