There'll probably never be a single again unless they fancy another top 54 'hit'

I hope there will be more Manics singles. Would be a shame if there were to be no more!

2 years!..it's a long time to wait.
I think their lack of success can be explained by the manics producing solid and great sounding tracks but not absolute classics like ADFL and IYTT. As one reviewer of KYE said.. "When the manics push the boat out musically it rarely sinks" They haven't pushed the boat out musically in a long time unfortunately ![]() Still..I live in hope that they may come up with something amazing again some day.. They did in 2009! And in moments since. Ignore Gutless's trolling, there hasn't just been iffy stuff released in the last few years.

Nicky's words (or James's), saying something along the lines of "the next album is just going to be pure indulgence for us" and "It's something we've wanted to do for a long time".
In Everything, it was said that Horses Under Starlight was something James had "wanted to do for a while". That was completely different to anything on EMG or anything they had done at the time. Similarly KYE was eclectic and 'out-there' (songs like The Year Of Purification, Miss Europa Disco Dancer, My Guernica etc.) Therefore it follows that the next album may potentially be 'like' KYE. EDIT: And what Flint said ![]() By this, I suppose you actually mean the type of music not completely ordinary as found on KYE and Lifeblood? Not just the straight-ahead rock/pop found on SATT, JFPL and PFAYM? |

These days I listen more to their b-sides and Journal for plague lovers. For me ME,design, tolerate,Kevin Carter and of course all of holy bible are away above their recent stuff.. B-sides like Red Rubber definitely gives me the impression they still have it in them to produce really amazing songs that are challenging musically and lyrically.. Will probably get to hear *something* new in 2013. I've heard rumblings of a track entitled "Running Away With Fantasy" which the band are quite proud of. I can imagine this being a downloadable one-off release. Personally, the new album will most likely be of a similar vein to Postcards or SATT. I can't imagine the band have the ideas or the energy now to bother recording 70 songs for a single release. They can barely muster up the energy and enthusiasm to release 10 amazing songs for a single album.

Slightly harsh... The band have been quite prolific of recent. 3 (very different) albums in 5 years isn't lazy..

I don't really get why JFPL is seen as so musically different or creative or radical etc on here. Out of many of their albums it's probably the most straightforward pop-punk-rock thing they could've released. In many ways, SATT and PFAYM have been the most risky/different albums, given that that style of music hasn't been popular since the days of Urban Hymns.
Also, someone mentioned Horses Under Starlight... Sounds like the SIMS soundtrack really doesn't it
