"Old songs leave long shadows" - the Futurology musical similarities thread

So, new album, new musical appropriations.

Let's Go To War: Tchaikovsy's Slavonic March and Grieg's In The Hall of the Mountain King

Mayakovsky: O Katrina! - Black Lips

Any more?

I think this was suggested earlier (I forget who, sorry you if you're reading!):
Walk Me to the Bridge: Phil Lynott - Yellow Pearl

The intro to Last Jet To Moscow sounds more than a bit like Chariots of Fire

Yup, that would have been me (no apologies necessary). I still wish James would launch into "attack, attack, attack is what we lack" - that would have been such a classic "Masses against the Classes" line!

There are a couple of other moments that remind me of other songs, but I can't quite put my finger on it...

Oh, yes, "Between the Clock..." is very Prefab Sprout, not because of the music, but because Gartside's voice sounds so much like Paddy McAloon's. Only a tiny, tiny step away from downright kitsch.

There's a definite Beatles vibe on Blistered Mirrors' chorus - can't think what song in particular but hope it will come to me!

The music in the chorus of Walk Me To The Bridge oddly reminds me of the music for the verses of You Love Us.

Also the intro to Black Square appears to be a 'homage' (coughs) to Flock of Seagulls 'Wishing'. At least they didn't replicate the hairstyles!

Walk Me To The Bridge sounds like Push by The Cure. Try it.
