2015 THB shows - the 'part 2' setlist

Aside from THB songs I wonder what the 2nd set will bring. Surely by next summer they will feel less of a need to promote Futurology and I'd doubt that they'll debut more than 1/2 new songs.

Given that next summer will coincide with 20 yrs since recording of EMG began it would be nice to see one or two tracks from that album return to the setlist for the second half of the shows. Tracks like 'Kevin Carter', 'Removables' or 'Small Black Flowers' perhaps.

Thinking of a setlist that they'll realistically play I'd go for:

Set 1:

THB in full

Set 2:

Found That Soul
Design For Life
Kevin Carter
Removables
You Stole The Sun From My Heart
Small Black Flowers (James solo)
Running Out Of Fantasy(James solo)
Comfort Comes
You Love Us
Cardiff Afterlife
If You Tolerate This...
No Surface All Feeling

Set 2

I can barely remember if they played Removables on the EMG tours, pretty sure I can't remember it being played since. Would be nice to hear a few of the lesser played EMG tracks.

If I could chose a B-Side it would be Too Cold Here.

There won't be two james solos, i would imagine. I think they did an instrumental and a duet because of how much he has to sing on thb...so i would imagine similar next year.

Personally I can't wait until the 25th anniversary tour of Gold Against the Soul in 2018.

I'm surprised No Surface All Feeling hasn't appeared, so maybe that will pop up next year.

I think they should do a week of shows and do every album, 2 a night.

I remember Suede did something similar, album per night plus period b-sides, rarities etc. now the band have broken the (self-imposed) taboo of playing THB in full, it wouldn't surprise me if this will be the next idea they'll finally give in to.

Idlewild also did something similar, 2 albums in full per night - each time pairing a lesser recognised album with a more popular one. with 12 albums to their name, could see the Manics do that maybe, over 6 nights?

THB
RTF
Would be an amazing night to go to! There's no way they'd go near playing GT in full!
I reckon if they've thought they'd put Futurology to rest as well on this tour, then we'd get more of a span of their older songs instead.
TSWH is a dead cert for the second set. But I'd really hope they play 30YW instead.
And it sounds great and you'd think it was fitting for the next show after the THB, but if that album has memories for them, then what would RITH have done to them or us?
I can't see them ever doing GT in full, but I can easily see them play KYE in full one day!

I don't think they'll go the EMG album shows. I really think THB ones have been a gigantic effort for them, especially James.

Unless they get offered more money, of course!

Just seen Biffy do something similar. Was fucking great.

I'd guess the second set will be virtually identical with a couple of swapouts (Donkeys for Comfort Comes maybe, with Sorrow 16 an extra song for Cardiff). And possibly they might do a different instrumental. I'd guess that, as it usually does, the JDB solo number will rotate as well.

I can't decide how I think they're going to treat the Cardiff one especially. I'd initially thought that big gig = big hits, and you'd be on a full Australia, MJ, YLAINE, standards sort of thing. But recent tweet would seem to suggest otherwise.

Although I couldn't make this run of shows, I still think it's funny that despite the immense treat of seeing THB in full, some of the surprise inclusions in the second set have proved almost more interesting. I'd written it off as a quick run through the hits but they sound like they've been really marvelous gigs all through.

I get a very Millennium Stadium feeling for the Castle show: beyond THB there'll be less Futurology, more obvious crowd pleasers (plus Comfort Comes and Sorrow 16);

Show Me The Wonder / The Everlasting (acoustic)
Motorcycle
Your Love Alone
Walk Me To The Bridge
You Stole The Sun
Australia
Everything Must Go
Comfort Comes
Sorrow 16
You Love Us
Tsunami
If You Tolerate This
A Design For Life

they seem to have been incredibly prescriptive with their teasers to date: when Nicky says "we'll be playing Donkeys" for this last run, he didn't mean "plus other obscure fan favourites", he literally meant they will play Donkeys within a fairly standard hits / new album promotional set. it'll be the same with Cardiff Castle: standard gig plus Comfort Comes / Sorrow 16.
