GATS isn't my favourite album by a long way, but the songs do sound awesome live - Roses In The Hospital at Swansea remains one of my Manics Live highlights.

Quote:
I really don't like the production of the GT or GATS eras but I would listen to GATS before I would listen to GT. |

I love Gold Against The Soul and all the songs on the album. It's dark and the music speaks with the lyrics. I hope they will play more songs from this album.

If GT was to be their Appetite for Destruction, GATS was the album that actually had the production to match it, sound-wise.

Highly criminally underrated album, especially by the band.
About the song, I think it is a minor track in this great album. I really think that the album should have another name. Usually, when there's a title track on an album, it is generally the lead single or at least one of the best songs on the album. Not in the case and I think it is harming GATS reputation. |

It's seemingly an unpopular view but I'm also a big fan of the song. The (clearly not Wire) bass is great and the chorus is huge with some fantastic layered vocals, you can almost hear JDB discovering the way his voice works best.
Yeah its a bit lyrically 'clunky' in places but what pre-Holy Bible tracks cant you level that accusation at ? |

I'd love it if that was actually credited as that on the album!
I do like the song, but the bit about the Pits is a bit clunky. And the middle eight. But it's great musically and I love the slide and stomping machinery bit at the end. Good riff as well. |

The shiniest bleakest most crescendo-of-defiance song they've done, with a bullying, eerie intro and middle bits.
Love it. Have always loved it. So there.

I've always liked the song personally and really do enjoy the album overall, I don't understand the near 100% dislike for it and never have. I always used to think that weird sound in the song was like a scared dog or something, but I have no idea what it really is. I'm gonna pop the album on now and what a start with Sleepflower!!!!

If I had the time and ability and resources, I'd make a video of this song to Muppet Babies footage. I'd try to get the OBE part to sync up with Gonzo looking angry that Santa Claus doesn't get any sleep.
And other footage where they look pissed off, not the wide eyed they usually are. I imagine Scooter would be the star of such a video! |
