I think its position on the album is what's most problematic. They finish the title track with 'This world will not impose its will, I will not give up and I will not give in' and then on SKON you're immediately faced with 'The sky is falling in on you, crushed any happiness you knew'.

And I'm like, so much for that outpouring of defiance...

I liked SKON when I heard it on the radio... but compared to the rest of the album, for me it's the weakest link of PFAYM.
Was gutted last night the album crashed out of the top ten, but still think things can be saved! All hopes rest on Golden Platitudes in a last ditch attempt...

It's referring to a pet dog dying I believe so it's not really from a human standpoint. Or rather it's a human looking on as their beloved pet gets older and eventually passes away. Something like that. So for me it doesn't detract from the defiance of the previous song. There's me being all analytical there!

Being in Italy for 4months I never managed to get it.

My parents arrived today for a visit and my dad brought it with him (to be fair I did ask, but I thought he'd forget) so this is the first I've heard apart from the single.

Loving it! But that might just be excitement, I've waited too long.

Just got the album on Monday because I was skint the previous week. Its a bit underwhelming isnt it? A lot of the songs sound the same and they dont hold my attention for long. I really can't understnd how the Manics can listen to the record and think people would really want to hear it. If I was in a band I wouldnt release anything unless I thought it was some of my best material. Surely they cant think its great. I hope it grows on me because Manic Street Preachers are my favourite band and I listen to them all the time.

I agree really, i'm liking it more than before but it's not a patch on the last album. I'm hoping they move on from it quickly, the songs just aren't as strong as their usual standard. Banging alot of strings over songs doesn't make them great, the best songs on the album are the stripped down ones. Originally when i first bought it, it was third from last in my list of albums. I possibly prefer it to SATT now but only just.

It'll grow on you. Trust me! Well I'm listening to it in my car all the time. Especially love driving past a cyclist when All Me Make Is Entertainment kicks in. Yahooo!

Damn, I must have missed that then but that's good to know at least. Glad SKON isn't the second single!

PFAYM did actually have a positive effect for me, it reinvigorated my interest in SATT. I loved it when it came out, but I had got bored with it to the point where I thought TSGD was the only good song, but PFAYM made me appreciate it again. PFAYM's just a polished turd.
