I meant "commercially successful" regarding SATT. I'm not too keen about it, but it's a crucial record in their record and it gave them the respect they deserved back after KYE and LB.

I can't really recall SATT giving them any more respect than they usually get these days, outside some twiddly NME award. It gave them a hit, but it was JFPL that mainly got the critics etc to finally state that modern Manics can produce good stuff too.

Yes, but if SATT had failed the band might have called it a day back then. And they wouldn't have done JFPL without SATT.

Maybe I'm just being too anal and taking your cunning classic lyric reference too literally. Cause I can totally agree with SATT being an important record to them in their career despite my personal feelings for the album, just that it is much more notable commercially rather than due to the band getting some new-found respect from it.

You're right, I should have taken intelligent phrasing over the obvious Archives quote

I wonder if they may not make another album for a long while. The last one did seam to have a sense of coming full circle, as JFPL is resolved the questions raised in HB maybe in some combined way PFYM and SATT is the resolved thinking of their other side from EMG and TIMTTMY. All meaning they will not feel need to write anything for while, and will want a break after whirlwind of past few years, then they will come back with another album in few years after long-ish break!

Yeah I think you're right. We won't be seeing a new album probably for decent amount of time. 2007-2010 Three albums, they won't keep churning them out.

James will go insane if anyone suggests a break though!

Fair enough, though I think the fact that the NME decided to love them after the worst record of their career, quite telling about the validity of that rag's taste.
