What James actually says is that the new album will not be out this year or next year, "to give the audience a break", and so that they can decide "what sort of album it should be". James says he isn't keen on the "70 Songs" idea at all but that they are still having "internal arguments" about whether or not to do it.

The interviewer then asks if this is "the third breakpoint" for the band having earlier discussed breakpoints post-THB and post-Lifeblood, and James laughs at the question and says "it might be" in a way that suggests he hadn't even thought of it in those terms.

At no point whatsoever does he even mention the greatest hits or touring later in the year at all, he certainly doesn't say they're off the cards. At no point whatsoever does he say the band are taking two years off. The ONLY thing he says here is that they're taking their time with the new album. It certainly suggests they're slowing down a bit so that they can do something good with the new album, but it doesn't really suggest that they'll be disappearing or that the Greatest Hits and tour are scrubbed.

The only reason I didn't watch the interviews last night is that I was reading the thread on my iPhone, and assumed that four pages worth of posts meant people actually knew what they were on about In other words, steady on chaps!

Regards,
Marwood.
If you want to give your audience a break, you won't tour a greatest hits, don't you think?

And he said: no album next year, it means 2 years without a new album.
And they won't release a greatest hits without touring it, right?

Problem solved, I think i earn my job at the Sun, no

Could be meaning give the audience a break from new material, it's pretty ambiguous.

A break from new material, when they barely played any of their last album anyway?

They've earned a break, and they need the space to come back with something solid, consistent and original for them.
Yeah, I agree with this. I'd rather they took their time with the next album.

You might have to link this story to Ryan Giggs infidelity or Cheryl Cole losing her job on the X-Factor somehow but you're showing early signs of promise.

Yeah I took ti to mean no new album as in no new stuff rather than no greatest hits. If Sean's pretty much self confirmed the GH...

It really sounds like a break between new albums to me, give the audience a break from new material. As Takk says it is far too vague for everyone to be going "ooh no GH and no tour and new solo albums!".

Regards,
Marwood.

Nic and I spoke to Sean after the Brixton gig and he did say they were doing a Greatest Hits album, he said they had to do one every 10years and that this one would be better than their last effort!! Having said that, he also said they were doing an arena tour including the O2 arena

Well there we go, thanks

Hate arena gigs and don't really see how they can fill them these days, but there it is

Regards,
Marwood.

Yeah they can sell out Cardiff Arena, but its in Wales and it is a small arena, by MEN and O2 standards it's tiny.

and the fact that they have to do one every ten years is a bit shit... Lets all some some Manic Street Preachers Contractual Obligated Fun! It can only be better than Forever Delayed though right?

It would be pretty difficult to be as bad as that soulless pile of shit.

I really like 'There By The Grace Of God' and 'Door To The River' though. Edited to add: Also the artwork is lovely.

Regards,
Marwood.

Unless he's lying or changes his mind, which, given he's a member of the Manics, can't be ruled out.

From what I remember, none of us expected PFAYM to come out last year and there were interviews at the beginning of 2010 claiming it wouldn't.

Either way, there's no way we'll be getting a break from them. There'll doubtlessly be various reissues after the Greatest Hits to fill any gaps.

Surely, can't rule that out. In 2010, when PFAYM was released Sean promised a gig in Belgium for PFAYM (as part of a European tour) in a newspaper.

So don't believe Nicky and Sean and their views on the future
I always tend to believe James though
